From Sally — Madame Defarge’s Christmas

Mme Defarge suffered a few production delays in her knitting workshop this holiday season, but in the end things worked out reasonably well considering everything else that was going on.

1. Daughter’s sweater. Finished. On time!

2. Husband’s sweater. Finished. On the 26th!

3. Son’s blanket. Not finished. Oops, alors.

Just as Dickens liked to do, I’ll post these finished gifts as a serial. In our first installment, here are a few quick shots of my daughter in her Vivian.

As a bonus, I knit her a Calorimetry headband while sitting in the hospital with my son.

As for the Vivian cardigan, she says she likes it but the proof will be whether she wears it. Don’t you love a cliffhanger?

Next installment: Open Cable Cardigan.

  8. From Susan — The zipper, perfectly installed, absolutely MAKES the sweater!! It would look like crap otherwise! 😉

  12. The sweater is beautiful and the daughter is as well. If she doesn’t wear it, perhaps you should trade her in…..

  13. Four things:
    1) Have never met your daughter and son. This needs to be remedied.
    2) Wish my 2nd cousin a speedy recovery … we here at the Nelson home know how awful a broken leg at Christmas-time is. Two years ago we had a teen femur fracture to deal with.
    3) Sweater, STUNNING.
    4) That is THE headband that I want to knit. I have that page bookmarked. From Knitty, yes? I’m trying to get brave enough to do it, and to use one of my homemade buttons to finish it.

NICE work, Surly, and best of luck with the broken-leg-boy! Hope he’s healing well.

  14. That cardigan is beautiful — I can’t imagine why she would not be pleased and proud to wear it! Unless she gets tired of all the compliments….

  16. Great sweater and she looks so pretty in the Calorimetry. Vivian fits well & look so nice on her. I hope she does wear it, and I hope I’m not jinxing things by saying so (I would be jinx with MY daughter. . .)

  18. Wow! The sweater turned out just perfectly — fit, color, style. Your daughter is lovely. (I have a 20-year-old daughter. . . so I totally “get” the but-will-she-wear-it thing.) I’ve always been kind of on-the-fence about the caliometry headband — until now! Yours is so gorgeous! I love it!
