From Sally — Rosarie and More Glovelets

Filed under: Rosarie — Sally @ 11:16 am

Yes, I still do knit occasionally — it just doesn’t feel like it.

I did finish my red cashmere glovelets the other day and finally found a camera to take a picture. Here they are in all their glory:

Now that I’ve taken a photograph, I have no excuse for not mailing them to the friend I knit them for. (Yes, I ended that sentence with a preposition. What of it?) I thought this yarn was soft while I was knitting with it, but it softened and bloomed considerably when I wet blocked the gloves. I cannot describe how good this yarn feels. (In case you don’t remember, it’s Jade Sapphire’s 4-ply cashmere.) I have another full skein of this yarn and I will have to knit some small luxury item for myself out of it.

I’ve also made a little bit of progress on my Rosarie vest. I wish I had more time to knit these days; I have so many projects I want to work on, and some of those aren’t even on the needles yet. Here’s a new picture of Rosarie:

I so love knitting. I wish I were faster.

  1. From Susan — I really like the glovelets — are you sure Janice is knitting worthy? I know I am…hint, hint :).

  2. You knit so beautifully! It’s not that you’re not fast enough, there’s just not enough time in a day…just sayin’

  3. OH! Birds of a feather flock together….. and commiserate. I am soooo not a fast knitter. I feel as if I will my hands to fly, fly fly…. but they just plug away dadum dadum. Very frustrating because in my mind I am knitting a mile minute! Anyway no matter the speed, your work is beautiful and you should be proud. Perhaps those speed demon knitters should have to submit to random drug testing… steroids or speed? hmmmmmmmm… your guess is as good as mine.

  4. From Susan — Sally and I are are both plodders. I’m not the fastest knitter on earth, I just do it every day so it starts to add up. It really helps if you stay focused on one thing until it’s done — but that’s easy to say and not easy to do!!!

  5. I think of plodding as The Japanese Method. When my husband and I were in Japan 20+ year ago we discovered that, in the more remote area where we were, they tended not to bring in lots of large equipment to do a construction project as we would in America. They instead kept working and working and working using smaller equipment and hand tools and by-and-by the project got done just fine.

In the years since whenever we need to accomplish something daunting we remind ourselves of The Japanese Method. You’re right — if one just keeps at it the results pile up.

  6. Cashmere….very nice! I knit these mitts once in merino, but I think cashmere would be so much better 🙂

    Your Starmore vest is gorgeous!

  7. I definitely agree that Susan is knit worthy and cashmere would look gorgeous on her 😉

Isn’t that always the way … so many things to knit but not enough time!

  8. No, I am not worthy! lol As the unbelievably surprised recipient of Sally’s cashmere glovelets, I am LUCKY though!! They are the softest, most luxurious things I have ever touched in my life, and one of my absolute most treasured possesions now. I love the cable pattern and the color is just gorgeous. The best part is I think of my best friend everytime I see them. (where do I got those cute little emoticons so I can post a kissy face for Sally?)
