This will be a quick update. I’ve just started Chart 7 of the Peacock Shawl, which is the section with the large feathers (before the edging). I’m posting a photograph although there’s not much to see yet — always the case with pre-blocked lace.

The color is deeper and richer than it looks here. I’m knitting it out of JaggerSpun’s Zephyr Wool-Silk (50% Merino Wool 50% Silk) in Mahogany. I’m using my new Addi Lace needles in a U.S. 4 (3.5 mm). I had been working on regular Addis but switched to the new ones when I picked this up to work on it again. They are a vast improvement; I can’t imagine knitting lace with anything else.

This is the first shawl I’ve knit with this yarn. It has a lot of spring to it — I think that this shawl will grow a lot once it’s blocked. So far, I like the yarn a lot; I’d definitely use it again.

  1. Beautiful, even unblocked. I can imagine the richness of the color and, from everything I’ve seen made with Zephyr, this shawl will block nicely!

  2. I really want to make that pattern!!! I’ve used Zephyr on a couple of shawls and really like it. I didn’t know how much until I knit something with Skacel Merino Lace (which I really didn’t like). I especially love the fact that I can get Zephyr for $8/skein with FREE shipping no minimum purchase at The Knitter!

  4. From Susan — $8 a skein! Drats!  Too late for us! Oh well. I will be re-starting my Peacock when I get new yarn (from Surly — she made the order for both of us). Hey, Sally, they mention Dorothy Siemens, the designer of the Peacock Shawl AND the Paisley Shawl, in the newest Vogue Knitting — pg 22.

    The shawl looks fabulous.

  5. It’s gorgeous! I’ve always wanted to try that yarn but I might start with the DK weight.

  7. I’m a big fan of Zephyr too. It holds a block really well and makes a shawl that’s light and floaty. Your Peacock Feathers looks great!

  8. It’s looking so gorgeous! That’s one of my favorite colors of Zephyr being knitted into one of my favorite patterns! Could it be any more perfect? I think not. :)

  9. I’m working on that, too – but with different yarn (handspun silk) and different size needles (US 0). I am nearing the end of chart 7 as well! It’s a lovely pattern.
