From Sally — Cap Shawl . . . and more

Filed under: Cap Shawl — surly @ 6:43 pm

I haven’t had much time to knit lately, but now that I have a good start on the baby blanket I decided to turn my attention to my Cap Shawl from the Victorian Lace Today book. I’ve finished 133 out of 171 rows, but according to Susan’s fiendish formula on how to figure out how much of a shawl you’ve knitted, I’ve got miles of knitting to go before I sleep.

Here it is (not much to see as is typical with lace).

Here is a close up of the transition from the spiral to the pattern at the outer edge before the border:

One of our loyal readers, Wendy O, is also making the Cap Shawl. She’s knitting it out of Zephyr Wool and Silk in a lovely color of pale green called Sage. I am hoping that she’ll let me share some photos of her shawl when it’s all finished.

Speaking of our readers: we may not be the biggest or best knitting blog, but we have the best readers. First, I want to thank everyone again for their kind comments about my entries to the Sheep & Wool Festival. And thank you Auntie Ann for letting me know that there were pictures of the Bohus floating around on other blogs. (I want that sock knitting machine. I am very serious.)

Finally, I don’t even know how to thank Kim, my mannequin benefactress. She heard that my Lucy (who has now been renamed Ethel), was a bit larger than I am. Lo and behold, a second one showed up at my door. I’m speechless.

This one even has nice legs and a cute little ass (which I sadly lack). Thank you so very, very much.

Here is Lucy modeling the Bohus:

Wearing only what God gave her:

Trying on my somewhat neglected Eris:

I can’t wait to see you in June.

  1. From Susan — I think [new] Lucy needs underpants!! She is way cute and very pert and perky — can “we” ever measure up to the perfection of our Lettie and Lucy? Wow. Lucy really is gorgeous! I LERVE the Cap Shawl. I don’t know about all these pretty shawls making the rounds — too much temptation!!

  2. Both the cap shawl and the Bohus are beautiful! Skillwise, I’m still in the wide-bordered shawl section of VLT, but I am working my way up. I just can’t decide between the cap shawl and the full-hexagon. Maybe I’ll know by the time I’m at that level.

My, Lucy isn’t a modest girl! I guess when you have no head thoughts of modesty are difficult. 😉

  3. Beautiful stuff there! Is there anything better than knitting with kidsilk haze? Truly. The stuff is addictive!

  4. June? What’s happening in June? Any chance your visiting the NJ/NY area? 🙂 I couldn’t think of anything I’d like more than an opportunity to sit and knit with the rainey girls! with cocktails of course. 🙂

  5. I’m going to a writing workshop at the University of Iowa and stopping in Mpls on my way from DC.

Hmmm. Knitting and cocktails is a very tempting combination.

  6. New-but-daily reader de-lurking here to assure you yours is an extremely fine blog, a pure pleasure to visit and the projects and workmanship are very inspiring. FWIW, you’re at the very top of my list. Congratulations on your well-deserved awards at MD S&W. I still have my blues, a red and a best of show from 1985 or 86 (forgotten which, I only competed one year). Had you been competing back then, I wouldn’t have had a chance.

    Best Wishes—-Sharon J.

  7. Hey – knitting and cocktails in Minneapolis?? That would be FUN!

  8. Yikes! Give her a pair of knickers or something!

The shawl is gorgeous. Love to see how the pattern slowly changes and a new one emerges. Poor Eris! Her turn will come again.

  9. From Susan — If you want to meet us in person, The Rainey Sisters will be appearing at the Panera’s in Plymouth for a one night engagement on June 14 from 5-ish to 8-ish!! Cocktails are not served there, but we can certainly see about finding some after 8pm!!

  10. Just a simple question here. How many balls of KSH is that shawl going to take?

  11. Sally- My Ginger may be a lush, but she would never show her ********** [edited to protect the innocent] on a blog!
    Shameful!

The Rainey Sisters is one of my favorite blogs, you never know what you two are
up to. And the knitting is A1.

  12. Wow — the pink shawl is just beautiful. The sage is pretty too, in a more subtle understated sort of way. I do love the color. I’m up to row 115 or so — just getting going on the second pattern. I’ll be happy to share once I’m finished — but be warned! There might (just might) be a mistake or two that I didn’t go back to fix. Not particularly glaring mistakes, but there none-the-less. My *next* shawl will be perfect. Thanks for the wonderful encouragement.

Maybe you could knit lucy a little skirt —

  13. You’re most welcome, I’m sure! Alas, I can’t be in Plymouth in June.

  14. That shawl is lovely — so soft and cuddly-looking. Personally I find KSH a *challenge* to knit, like working with hairy thread, but clearly you have no problem 🙂

Flag Day @ Panera in Plymouth? I might just be able to make it. What fun it would be to knit with youse guys!
