From Susan — Three Unexpected Delights

I left work today with no expectations to speak of.  Just meeting up with a knitting friend for coffee and then home.  I had a lovely time at the Yarnery waiting for my peep, and then a lovely dinner with said peep.  That constitutes Delight #1.

Delight #2: Aforementioned peep told me about a knitting book “must have.”  We rushed back to the Yarnery and I bought:

I’m sure many of you have seen it, but it was new to me.  It has some very helpful knitting tips and those were gleaned with a very cursory glance, so I look forward to exploring it in more depth.

Delight #3: My Hanne Falkenberg Plisse kit was waiting for me when I got home!

Was this the color I would have chosen if I could see them all?  Who knows!?  But I do know that the color is very lovely — it should go with jeans and khakis (I think), and so will be versatile.  Much needed addition to the fall/winter wardrobe — maybe not THIS fall/winter but… :)  I’m not the fastest knitter and I have a few things in queue but this one will jump to the front of the line pretty soon.

What a day brightener!  And I needed one, believe me.  I want to finish up the Hemlock Ring (it’s growing each day) and of course, the Kauni will be perfect for fall.  So, off I go to do my daily knitting chores!!

PS to all of my blog friends:  I luv ya!!  A big cyber-hug to every one of you who commented yesterday.  🙂

  1. Lucky you! The Plisse and it’s color are great!

  2. Is it sad that I think I might have that book but I’m not sure? If I weren’t so lazy I’d go down to my yarn room and look. But ya are, Blanche. (Obscure Bette Davis reference)

The yarn for the Plisse isn’t quite the color I was picturing, but it’s very pretty.

  4. Good peeps are for keeps! (yeah I should be in bed) Plisse looks fun and interesting. I really like the bottom, and the color is great.

  5. From Susan — it’s not quite the color I was expecting either, but I like it 🙂

  6. I went to the fair tonight with Shelly, and your fair isle sweater is the prettiest thing I have ever seen. I think you deserve all the ribbons you won. I have a Hanne Falkenberg kit waiting for me to start. I bought the Diva one.

  7. Wow – I’d buy that kit just for the yarn – it’s beautiful!

  8. It’ll be gorgeous! I felt the same way when I received my kit from virtual yarns for the Persian Tile Wrap. The color was more blue/gray in the photo and alot greener in person. If I had been pilfering through the piles I would not have selected this particual one, but hey… it’s branching out right?! 🙂
    Glad your day was brighter.

  9. Susan- “But ya are Blanche, ya are in that chair!” I love it!
I can see the affair continues with the Peacock Green, which is so lovely.
I always plan to have certain things for certain seasons, but I’m a slow
knitter and it never quite works out.

I guess there are worse problems in the world.

  10. Love the pattern and color or yarn. It’s good to try something new… if you always have vanilla you miss out on all the other yummy flavors, right?

    Enjoy!!

  11. I missed your post yesterday, when this comment would have been much more timely, but here so it goes. I live in Minneapolis, and I’ve admired your blog and your work for quite some time. I stopped into the Yarnery yesterday (I’m a very regular customer, but I don’t stay to knit because I’m shy! It’s the same reason there’s only a tiny bit of knitting on my blog. I feel like I don’t have nearly the ability or experience that most of the knitters out there have. Maybe someday I’ll get the courage to join the fun…) to feed my addiction, and I saw what looked like the Market Squares bag behind the counter—was that yours? Either way, it made me think of your knitting and how much I admire your talent. Please don’t heed the anonymous letter you received; there’s a reason they give prizes at the fair and other contests. Rewarding and recognizing talent is the entire point; discouraging talented people from entering such contests only dilutes the talent pool and deprives people like me from something to look up to.

Keep up the good work. You have plenty of fans! Hope to run into you at the Yarnery sometime.

  12. I so love your taste! I keep saying one day, I will have a Hanne Falkenberg design! If the The Big Book is OK by you, I know I can use it! Add it to the book list! Hugs back at ya!

  13. I love that color for Plisse. It’s a design that would lend itself to many good choices. I am looking forward to seeing it knit up.

  14. Eeeeeeee! I totally *heart* that book. I know I am in the minority when I say that I use it more often than Vogue or any other reference book.

And yay on that Falkenberg kit! I am a huge fan. 🙂

    Mwah!

  15. The Big Book is a wonderful book. I use mine a lot, and it was a bargain compared to the Vogue. I believe I’m with Romi, I use it a lot! The only thing is that it was translated, so sometimes things aren’t listed under the technique name you normally think of. Lots of detail on the shaker rib. It must be one of her favorite textures.

I saw your items at the fair. Good work! Keep entering.

  16. I use the Big book a lot, too. I has a better than average index and explains things that are off the beaten path. Of course I’ve got the Vogue one, too. But I’m a former librarian so I buy as many books as I possibly can. This is the book that helped me understand brioche. The Plisse pattern is great… sort of a tailored version of the one with the peplum in this month’s Vogue….

  18. I bought Plissé as well, and it looks a lot like the color I ‘choose’ from the extensive color card in the shop. I think the color was called ‘cypress’. I had the opportunity to try on the finished sweater – it’s lovely.
