From Sally — A Call for Help

Filed under: Uncategorized — surly @ 6:51 pm

I’m almost finished with Silver Belle — I’m knitting the collar, which I think will take me three to four years at the current rate of knitting. In the meantime, I’m fantasizing about my next project. There are several under consideration, including one phantom sweater.

The other day I was reading a bunch of different blogs and doing google searches. At some point, I came across a lovely vintage-looking sweater with an interesting mitered collar. It was designed by Kim Hargreaves; I think it was a cardigan. I don’t remember which rabbit hole I went down and I don’t remember enough details to find the actual pattern. I think it was in a Rowan book and I’m fairly certain the name of the pattern was “Betsy.”

If anyone knows more, please do tell. Thanks!

ETA: Thanks — it looks as if I need to track down Rowan #24, which, of course, I don’t have — if I did I might have made this sweater already! It’s also great to hear that it’s very wearable.

ETA2: Yes! Mama Stop Knitting was where I saw it — thank you. Here’s a photo.

  1. I don’t know the pattern of which you speak, but your browser may have a “history” section that shows all the Web sites that you visited in the past week. It’s a long shot, but maybe you can find it again that way?

  3. I don’t know if this will help or not…. It might be a good place to start. Velona carries many Kim Hargreave patterns.

    Good luck, Ronna

  4. Hi! As Carol mentioned here earlier Betsy is in Rowan 24. I had to comment because I have knit it when the magazine came out some years ago and the collar was the reason I did it! I have worn mine so much that it is not in a good shape any more… but it was a very comfortable cardigan.

I enjoy your blog a lot! Thank you for the inspiration.

  5. I have two very well/worn Betsys from Rowan 24. The design Olivia on Kim Hargreaves site in her latest collection has similar moss pockets. Somehow the Betsy type designs never date and are often the ones others comment on the most.
Thank you for your inspiring and most enjoyable blog.
    Very Best Wishes

  6. Betsy is also in a book called “A Treasury of Rowan Knits” (in the US) or “The Ultimate Book of Knits” (UK) which seems to be out of print in both countries, but might be found in libraries.

  7. Beautiful. What yarns did you use? Were they the same for the taupe and green? Where is the pattern? They are incredible. I think they would make fabulous engagement/wedding type gifts as well. Christmas gifts… very luck recipients!

  8. Hi! I think you might actually be referring to my blog *blush* Recently I did a sort of book review on “A Treasury of Rowan Knits” and featured Betsy as the pattern I’d love to knit for myself. I’d be thrilled to see you knit this! Although the book is out of print, you can get some really good deals on eBay, which is where I bought my copy.

  10. I meant to add that the cardigan looks very ‘Marion Foale’ to me.
