It feels like summer is over.  To be honest, summer doesn’t really end in Minnesota until October,  but we start whining about it as soon as August rolls around!!

Today felt like a day that needed a cookie.  So I made my favorite homemade cookies and it was a perfect batch.  I shared a small plateful with the neighbors and thought I should share the recipe with you!!

These cookies are chewy and crisp, and absolutely delicious.  I did not realize that I prefer my oatmeal cookies ‘sans cinnamon’ until I tasted these.  The recipe comes from a woman I used to work with.  She had these down to a science.  This is a half batch which is perfect for my little family.  I like it that I always have the ingredients on hand.

Go make these right now.  Really.  You will be happy!!!

PS: These are the type of oats that I use:

  1. Are those quick cooking oats or the “slow cooking” kind?

  2. Looks good! BTW – The Yarnery was at Stitches Midwest. I bought some super cool stuff and some to be shipped. You are fortunate to have such a great yarn shop close by!

  3. They are crying out for the addition of some butterscotch chips!

My favorite oatmeal cookie recipe is very close to this, but it has nuts AND butterscotch chips. Gotta have ’em.

Must bake cookies tomorrow morning . . .

  4. Excellent cookies! Ironically, the Quaker Oats box you show is where the original recipe came from; I got it from my mom, and they are wonderful…addictive with chocolate chips (your half recipe would require 1/2 cup semisweet chips; I make the full recipe and use 1 cup). For softer cookies, leave them to bake 1 minute less — in my oven, that’s nine minutes.

  6. That recipe has been my go-to for oatmeal cookies for years. I’m glad I copied it off the Quaker Oats carton because they’ve changed it, boo hoo. I can also recommend some other flavor combinations: cut up dried apricots + chocolate chips + nuts (optional) -or- grated orange peel + dried cranberries. It is such a great base recipe you can let your imagination go wild!

  7. Oh, hmmm, I just did some research and my recipe has water too. But my suggestions should still work. So little time, so many cookies to try!
