From Sally — Do You Recognize This Needle?

Filed under: Updates — surly @ 1:32 pm

I was just swatching for a project and one of the needles I grabbed is a favorite of mine.  Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea what the brand is, whether it’s still being made, or whether it’s been changed.  I have several of these needles in different sizes but nary a package in sight.

Here are two photos.  As you can see, the cord is black.  It’s also extremely flexible.  The tips are sort of between being pointy and blunt, and the surface itself has a nice feel.  Not too grabby, not too slick.  The needle size is “engraved” on the tip (you may not be able to read it in the photo).  Finally, the cord itself flattens out slightly just before it attaches to the tip.

If these are still being made I want to buy more.  I thought I’d reach out to our readers to see if anyone knows about these mystery needles.

ETA: Thanks everyone — the consensus seems to be Inox. I knew our readers wouldn’t let us down. And thanks for the information on where to find replacements.

  1. Might be an Inox needle. Looks like my Inox needles, anyway! I don’t think they are made anymore.

  2. I thought it was an Inox too. I loved them. Like Bonnie I don’t think they are made any more.

  3. Yes, I agree that it looks like an Inox. I just checked my size 8 16″ circular and it is just like the picture. I have a size 2 as well, but that one does not have the flattened cord.

  4. try Prym needles – they are the European version of Inox (and still seem to be sold).

  5. Inox Express / Prym nickel circulars. Worth a search.

  6. Yes, I would say Inox, however mine is NOT “engraved” on the tip. However, flexible cord, black, smooth metal much like Addi Turbos (although mine has a flaw in the finish). I have no idea where I bought it (perhaps a discount store like KMart?) – I only have one needle like that and I’ve had it for ages.

  7. Try eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-New-INOX-Nickel-Plated-Circular-Knitting-Needles-various-sizes-/302055206691?var=&hash=item4653e4af23:m:mzS0DDnIk4lq4ocD4O8lT4Q.

  8. It looks like an Inox, one of their old style. Unfortunately, they changed the coating to some weird, sticky, icky thing, thus going from my favorite to my least favorite. Now I use the Knitter’s Pride Nova Platina interchangeables. The cord is even more flexible, but the size is printed on the tip rather than engraved.
