Had you going there for a minute, didn’t I?  😉

Have any of you NOT made a Hitofude?  If you answered YES, then go, right now, and get some fingering weight yarn (2-3-4 skeins) and start this puppy.  The pattern is less than 2 bucks!  Go…now!

I am knitting my FIFTH Hito!!  Two for me, two for elder daughter, and this one for my youngest daughter.  I am a bad mother – Jena should have gotten this sooner!

Jena tried on Laura’s which is so small a toddler could wear it.  I am making Jena a size medium, even though she is pretty petite.  The yarn is Pop Sock – The Yarnery’s own line of yarn.  I think my color is Inner Tube.  It is a good match to the yarn I used in my original Hito: Madelinetosh Lite, Composition Book Grey.  It is a nice, plump sock yarn with a lovely tonality.  I am nearing completion, though I have been puttering away on it for months.

I also finished up my state fair knitting.  Small things and a couple of sweaters.  The fair starts on August 24th so the excitement is building.  Or not.  I don’t know that I will do that well this year but it is always fun to look.  Friend Kim entered a stellar piece and should do quite well.

I will be looking for the Knitter’s Guild yarn bombed horse!  What fun!  It is so cute.

Speaking of yarn bombing.  They just finished installing a huge yarn art piece at the Mall of America!!  I hate shopping but I am going to go see the yarn bomb on display!

  1. Um, no I have not. I have one started, but have really been on the fence about it. I cannot do boobs and belly sweaters, but I LOVE the ones you have knit!!

Best o luck at the fair to you and Kim! Is Kim’s what I think it is?

Excited to hear all about the results!!

  2. I have not – I even have appropriate yarn! And wanted to follow your mods for the tall folk. Someday.

  3. No, although I do have the pattern and yarn. It’s not a priority at the moment. Maybe in the future, but I already have quite a few WIPs and a long list of other things I’d rather make.

  4. Oh, Susan, I showed Pete the pix of the little boy wearing his knitted clothing and we both giggled! Really, tho, Laura and Jena are so blessed to have a mom who makes them such beautiful sweaters. We’ll be looking for your creations again at the fair! Hugs!

  5. If Mr. Rieger should have any more need of yarn for his next installation I have about 100 lbs. to spare.

  6. Even if I knitted 50 Hitofudes.

  7. Sorry. Couldn’t resist. Although I would love to see a Hitofude in person, I don’t have the ability for a variety of reasons to knit one myself. It sounds like it fits and flatters beautifully.

  8. Well I finally finished the extra long version. Just have to block. Any sage advise. Do send an email. We need to get together and knit. PS congrats on your State Fair ribbons.

  9. My older son gave me that card back when he was in college (and I started knitting again in earnest). And younger son sent me photos when hotxtea was installing that yarn thing at the Mall. Apparently I trained those boys right!

  11. I did a striped Hito in various shades of grey, a little blue and a little black and white. It came out real cute and I wore it a lot last winter. Mine is also a bit too long, as I did not want a too short one. But I love it. One button, a big ceramic one a friend made for me. Someday I’ll make another. I have a 55 inch bust, so I had to up-size it, which came out great. Just a little math…

  12. I have a large top shelf. Fly-away open front sweaters are not for those of us whom the Lord blessed with excess boobage. I will admire from afar.
