From Susan — Going Bananas for Monkeys

Apparently we struck a chord with the State Fair post, so I thought I would share the photo I took of the Sock Monkey Bra Gown.  This gown has a sleek silouette for a more sophisticated look.  The gowns are not hand knit, but rather sewn from knit fabric.  Please note the adorable matching back pack that rounds out the ensemble :).  To view the Sock Monkey Ball Gown, scroll down through the next post.

  1. Monkeys cupping boobs – why did I never think of that before as sophisticated, elegant and sexy???

  2. Whew! Thanks for telling us those are made from fabric. The thought that someone spent all that time knitting those 2 *gowns* is truly frightening.

  3. I can only think this is some kind of joke! Was there a contest to see who could be most outrageous with the sock-monkey theme?
Lovely knits. Will you be publishing your scarf pattern?

  4. From Susan — I really don’t know the origin of these dresses! It does truly boggle the mind. There are so many ways to spend one’s time…..

  6. Like a train wreck, they are. I can’t look away! Guess I’ll have to go see them in person now.

  8. I Saw the Monkey Dresses and LOVED them! Yes, they are outrageous. Yes, they are crazy. But I thought that they are the epitome of creativity and fun! WOW!!!

  9. For a state fair it is rather unexpected but I bet the person, or persons, originally made both outfits for some other reason and then entered them into the fair afterwards.

I took a couple years of Fashion Design and we were required to come up with off beat stuff like this in one of the classes. Even though the main objective of the assignment was to increase our creativity and follow certain design guidelines (which varied from year to year), a lot of blood sweat and tears (not to mention $$) went into these designs which were worth a goodly portion of our final mark. I could certainly see a student trying to get a bit of extra mileage (and perhaps exposure) out of an otherwise unwearable garment by entering them in a state fair. I wish I had taken a photo of a fellow student’s “tree gown”. It had very realistic quilted bark, extended branches and numerous leaves. It looked fantastic but the model could barely shuffle down the runway.
