Some of you asked about where to get the Mitered Tote pattern:
if you are interested in making your own Modular Felted Tote Bag (which I kept calling the Mitered Tote by accident!), you can get the pattern from The Yarnery in St. Paul: 651-222-5793. Theresa Gaffey works there and has created many nice designs.

I missed wayyy too much! The totes are both gorgeous! What is the sweater they’re posing on? What a beauty!

From Susan — the sweater shown with the two felted bags is an Adrienne Vittadini pattern from a while back (Surly, do you remember the details?). Sally made it in cashmere (doubled no less – per the pattern) and I did mine in Debbie Bliss Alpaca and Silk, color #10 (a very melony orange). This is a fun and easy sweater to make. It was made long before our blogging commenced, so it is not chronicled here.

Susan – I need help. I am trying to knit the mitered tote, and am
halfway through. I made the first rectangle for the bottom. the
instructions now say to cast on 20 stitches, pick up 80 along the
original cast on edge, then cast on another 20 = 120 stitches
altogether.
The original rectangle has 120 cast on stitches as well. So why
am I not just picking up 120 stitches along the original cast
on edge? Is there a reason why we want a flap on either side?
I can’t see anywhere in the instructions where it tells you
the flap would be useful, and I can’t see it on your bag. So
am I having a total senior moment?
Any help would be appreciated! I have only one other project to
work on while I put this one on hold!

I’m not Susan, but I think the flaps may be the “sides.” They taper to a point at the top.

The flaps aren’t the sides. Because after you are done with these
two bottom pieces, you pick up stitches for the sides, and yes
they do taper into triangles towards the top.
