From Susan — Deja Vu All Over Again

Yogi Berra just passed away and they ran a list of “yogi-isms.”  I fond that I have used a several of these over the years, or at least they’re worth a laugh!!

On selecting a restaurant: ”Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded.”

On how events sometimes seem to repeat themselves: ”It’s deja vu all over again!”

On fan mail: ”Never answer an anonymous letter.”

On being asked what time it was: ”You mean now?”

On a spring training drill: ”Pair off in threes.”

On his approach to playing baseball: ”Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical.”

On death: ”Always go to other people’s funerals. Otherwise they won’t go to yours.”

On learning: ”You can observe a lot by watching.”

Our dad tells the story of his mother returning home from the butcher shop during WWII and telling him that she “bought every lamb chop they had before the hoarders got there!”  Sally and I use that line all the time — especially when talking about yarn.  We have to buy it all before the hoarders get it!!

  1. Thanks for the Laugh of the Day! Your mom is funnier than Yogi.

  3. I love what they quoted on the radio this morning. When his wife asked him where he wanted to be buried, in New Jersey where he lived or St. Louis where he was born, he said, “why don’t you surprise me.”

  4. I read these yesterday and have to admit to using a few at our house too. The line from your father is priceless. I had to tell a friend…what a hoot! Thanks for sharing. I read your blog all the time. I appreciate it and always look forward to new posts from either or both of you.

  5. Lovely post. Rest in peace, Yogi. Here’s a few more good ‘uns:

“If people don’t want to come out to the ball park, nobody’s gonna stop ’em.”

“The towels were so thick there I could hardly close my suitcase.”

“You better cut the pizza in four pieces because I’m not hungry enough to eat six.”

  6. God bless him — he was always good for a chuckle.

What a testament to hear people recount their memories of him.

Rest well, Yogi — thanks for the memories!!!
