From Both of Us: In Vogue

Filed under: Updates — Both Sisters @ 6:34 pm

One of things we often do when a new knitting magazine arrives is to page through it together over the phone.  Last week, when we received the new Fall Vogue, we both fell in love with the Leather Caged Purse kit from Maker’s Mercantile (shown on page 9).  The kits weren’t “live” on their website yet.  We hounded them kept checking back until they appeared and then placed our orders before the hoarders could get them all.  And thank goodness we did!  They are now backordered.  Yay for the hoggish speedy Rainey Sisters!

The kit comes with a cage and 3 skeins of  HiKoo by Skacel WoolieBullie in your choice of colors.  The fabric lining can be purchased from them or on your own.

Susan finished the cream colored version with black cage straight away and decided that to justify the expense of the cage, she would make another bag in brown.  She bought the brown yarn locally at Amazing Threads to get going ASAP.

Susan’s husband saw the bag on the table and said, “I just saw that in the most recent issue of Vogue Knitting!!”  😉

Here is the brown version:

Yes, the cream one is cuter, but they couldn’t both be cream or there would be no point!!

Sally selected a red purse cage and cream yarn.  They had several cute fabrics to choose from so she ordered two fabrics with her kit.  Here is her “When in Doubt Wear Red” rendition of the bag:

They all turned out really well and we feel quite cagey! 😉  ::Groan::

From Susan to Purrlie who said, “There’s just something a little perverted about that leather strapping.”  That’s what I like about it!! 😉

  1. You two are [insane], amazing! How could you get all these done so fast?! They are so cool – even the brown is very cool! Love the inside lining fabrics as well. BTW don’t forget my macaroons from the Fair! We will be waiting for you and Kim to arrive with Fair results – and cookies!!!

  2. Haha, I laugh everytime I think about the origin story of the phrase ‘before the hoarders get them all’! Very cute purses!

  3. Groan is right! Look forward to seeing everything you take to the fair. We are going Thursday afternoon. We are big fans of opening day when the grease is fresh and restrooms clean! How many things are you entering? What are you entering? I’m too lazy.

  4. Heading 100 miles down I94 to the Fair on Friday. Creative Arts building, lefse, horticulture building, DNR building, barns, cheese curds in that order. Can’t wait to see all the creative arts entries. I retired from teaching in June. Looking forward to seeing knitting projects to inspire me for the coming year now that I will have more time.

  5. I haven’t been to the fair in a long time — I’m never in Minnesota then. Maybe I should plan a road trip for next year!

  6. Driving 300 miles UP to the fair to see the knitting get my free toothbrush, eat honey ice cream and do other stuff. Can hardly wait.

  7. The brown one is cuter. I love brown and black together (as well as navy and black) because they’re color combos nobody ever uses even though they can look really striking together.

Okay, it’s probably just me and I’m warped but there’s just something a little perverted about that leather strapping.

  9. Susan and Sally, I personally love the red strapping…..with winter white yarn. You know me though…..I do like red! Your bags are beautiful, no matter their colors! Congrats Susan (and Kim) for your beautiful prize winnings at the fair. Cathy
