Lois asked me if I would be reverse engineering this year’s Olymp!c Hat. I hadn’t though about it, but when I saw how cute it was, I decided to go for it! It is another of Ralph Lauren’s designs as part of the Team USA Apparel line. Here is the original design, which retails for $328.

The hat itself was pretty straightforward. However, it was knit top down and seamed at the center back and the crown. I made mine bottom up without seams. The tassels, earflaps, and red wraps were the challenging part and do add a level of fussiness to the finishing. However, I think the tassels make the hat!

Wow, this is cool! Isn’t it frustrating when things are changed on purpose to be worse? Thank you for the hat pattern!

You and Ralph knocked this one out of the park, Susan. Love the detail and the color combination. Although as a knitter, of course, I prefer your version! How generous of you to offer it for free. Bummer about the software formatting. Sometimes I wonder why those techies can’t leave well enough alone.

Nicely done! Thank you for providing the pattern (and free!) I can imagine the tassels and wraps were the hardest part – seems the rest is pretty straightforward.

This looks great. Do you sell these at all? No way I am paying 300 for one of these!

I have a dear friend Terese who was the publisher for our local newspaper until she retired and moved to Minnesota to be near to her daughter and three grandchildren. I live in western NC. We had an ICE invasion in Charlotte in the summer, but it met with people in local communities standing up for their neighbors and having our first “No Kings”rallies. What is happening in Minnesota is so much worse—one of the most horrific chapters in our country’s history—but the resilience, and courage of the people of Minnesota has shown the whole world that trying to appease bullies has never worked, but standing strong with love can lead us out of the darkness of lies, cruelty, and hatred. We’re making hats, donating funds, and sending people of faith and courage to stand up with you.
