From Susan — RU Nutz??!!

In a word, yes.  I must admit that some of my projects baffle even me for logic.  This project is interesting and beautiful but was quite difficult.  It is small enough that I did not suffer long, but I did suffer…are you feeling any sympathy for me?  Darn!

Sun Burst by you.
Sunburst Beaded Bag, pattern by Janet Hoxie of SewUnique
Size 0000 needles and No. 8 Perle Coton, Size = 3″ across

The picture cannot possibly capture the deep teal-green irridescence of the beads.

I would recommend this project if a) you have already done some bead knitting and 2) you have really good eyesight and/or really good lighting.  I can vouch for “a” but “2” was a stretch, as I have neither!  I had to bring out my Ott light, readers, and a seeing eye dog to finish this puppy.  All in all, I really love it and would make another.  I think the next one will be easier because of my newly acquired neck pain experience!  This truly is extreme knitting.

  1. Wow – it’s certainly beautiful. 0000 needles? 40-bazillion beads? Totally worth it, I think.

  2. love it & really want to do some bead(ed) knitting. have collected some supplies & info towards this end, but have as yet not found any really comprehensive & detailed volume that explains & illustrates these techniques fully. do you know of any such book, article, website, etc.? i’d love to try one of those old victorian beaded purses with the pictures going all the way around the bag. talk about extreme knitting!

  3. I do feel sorry for you having to use that ugly thing!!! You are nuts. It’s gorgeous. I have reading glasses and good light. But I think I’ll just bask in the beauty of yours instead.

  5. Insane. Pretty. Are you Victorian? Any recent urges to race out to the Moors and shout, “Heathcliff!”? thank you for sharing the lovely

  7. The nutty thing is you didn’t include the quarter for scale! It is beautiful and that is worth going nuts for.

  8. I got to see it up close and personal on Friday afternoon. Susan is right. The photo is good, but in no way captures the beauty of this puppy. Way to go, Susan.

  13. I’ve done some beaded bags before too but LOVE this pattern–much more intricate than what I have done in the past–off to purchase pattern. What kind “handle/necklace” did you use to finish? On my smallish monitor it looks as if you simply made a twisted thread cord with the beads strung randomly–am I close?
