The best laid plans as they say…I thought I would need 9 repeats of the little leafy doo-dads on my Whiskey (aka Sweetheart) Tunic, but I ended up doing 10. It is still too short, BUT I am confidant (XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX crossed fingers and toes!) that blocking will give me the length and width needed. I think I’ll be fine. I don’t want the bodice sloppy loose, so I hope my strategy is correct.
I am on the back section now. I did make a few minor changes to the pattern: I knit it in the round; I did not do the side decreases but rather shaped it by changing needles from a 6 to a 5 and then a 4; I lengthened the bodice so the stockinette starts beneath the bust line instead of right at the bust (at least I hope it does!); and I added the purl row before the stockinette to look like the finished project (this step is not written in the directions). Here is the original Sweetheart Tunic:
I hope to be done with this by next week — again, XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX!!!!! I will be able to use my newbie crocheting skills around the neck and armhole edges.
PS — it was lovely to hear from so many tatters. I may have to give that another try — after this project is done, of course!
Can I ask what size you are making? I think that as long as you are getting gauge the top portion should fit just fine 😉 I did write the pattern to have a little more space between the bust line and the armholes so make sure you don’t make this portion too long 🙂
Can’t wait to see it done. Now that the Sweetheart Lace is finished the stockinette shouldn’t take anytime at all.

Hi…beautiful knitting…question..how would it look to shape a V neck rather than the rounded? Rounded looks great on the designer but wonder if a V would also work well with the lace work – a variation to a stunning design….R

My god, that is a beautiful stitch pattern!
It looks like it *will* block long enough since it’s a very vertical pattern. Just be merciless with the pins! 🙂

Susan,
as usual, your knitting is gorgeous. You inspired me to buy this pattern and I am curious about using graduated smaller needles rather than decreasing. At what point in this pattern, or in others, are smaller needles introduced?
thanks much,
Nancy

Hello, when I want inspiration, I visit this site. Such fine knitting! Beauty in stitches. I do have a question, and am not certain where to post it that you’ll get it. Re: inverted pleat Pearl Buck jacket: my fragile brain can’t think it through. Did you simply swap follow the instructions for row 1 on the outside fold, row 2 on the inside fold, etc. or did you do row 2 instructions on row 1 and change the purls to knits/ knit to purl, etc. Do you understand what I’m asking. Makes my brain hurt–am I making this more difficult than it is? Thanks very much for your time. Happy knitting.
