Ahhh, fall is in the air and I am loving it! Well, it is actually really hot today, but still. The Vikings are playing football and school has started, so that constitutes fall for me.
I am cobbling together the yarn to make Dale of Norway 10903 (catchy name, huh). I linked to WendyKnits blog because that is where I saw this pattern many years ago. I have loved it ever since and had it in my “I’ll get to that one someday” queue. Well, that day has arrived. The yarn hasn’t! I am going to make it as a cardigan and have changed the blue to one that is a bit darker. Now I will wait patiently for my yarn and dabble in other things. I. Will. Wait. Patiently.
In the meantime I am trying to get my SewJo back (sewing mojo ). I have an event to attend in 2 weeks. It is a gala. Old ladies in prom dresses. I do not own a prom dress and never did. I am not the evening gown type. So what does a dud wear to a gala? I am going to wear a dressy suit. I bought some drop dead gorgeous gold/brown/black brocade for the jacket and some silky black for a longish dress to go underneath.
Of course, the beauty cannot be captured — elusive as a butterfly!
I have done the cutting and now must start the sewing. Woo Hoo!!
PS: in response to Julie — Dale of Norway 10903 does not have an official name. Wendy (of WendyKnits) named it Frida to give it a name. But if everyone calls it Frida because Wendy named it, then I guess it has a name!
I paused to admire the fabric, and at that time my husband looked over my shoulder and said “Oh, that’s pretty fabric!” You know it’s great when.
Can’t wait to see the finished outfit.

That will be a very nice outfit. I had a formal event to go to recently – made even worse by the fact that it was on a boat so you actually had to stay till it was over, or else swim home. I fretted and brooded about it for several weeks, and at the last minute the thought was just so awful that I couldn’t possibly bear it, so I rudely just didn’t go. There were lots of people there, so my plan is to pretend I was there and tell the hostess what a lovely party it was.

I totally love that fabric!

That type of jacket over a dressy dress look my mother used to call “an ensemble” sounds much more glamorous that way.

I LOVE paisley. That will make a stunning “ensemble”.

The mother of the bride of a wedding I went to recently made herself a long gray satin skirt with a gray/silver brocade top, very similar to your idea. She was also tall and looked fabulous. I used to sew (no where now to put my machine) and always breathed a sigh of relief when the cutting came out right. The rest always seemed like gravy. I’m sure we all hope you’ll model the finished product!

That paisley just knocked my socks off, it even blew my doors off – I’m dying to know the fiber content. I admit to being a bit of a paisley freak. Up to the armpits on the Oregon Cardi – all thanks to your inspiration. My first full Fair Isle project! Loved the “SewJo” part. I’d have a long curve to get mine back. After sewing professionally for years it kinda killed off the love…

Susan – I think the beautiful Dale sweater is called ‘Frida’.

OOh I love that paisley. You will look very elegant & neither prom queen nor dud. Better than either.

Please take a picture of you in your stunning new outfit. Have a wonderful time at the event!

Oh, my! That jacket is going to be FABulous! What beautiful fabric. And that sweater? Frida — or whoever? It is also FAB. I have long loved that sweater. Can’t wait to see how both of these projects turn out. (It looks like you’ve got your SewJo/MoJo back by the buckets-full!)

I truly admire your ambitious sweater project. ENVY (a Million)

Am I the first to notice that Dale of Norway 10903 aka Frida is quite reminescent of that paisley in its own way? Too bad you can’t wear a DoN sweater to the event!
Comment by twinsetellen — September 14, 2009 @ 6:49 pm
reminiscent, not reminescent – sorry!

I can’t sew worth crap — Susan, however, is a fabulous seamstress and I am sure it will look terrific.

OK, you two. I am still longing to see River Run. Status update?

Can crochet be sexy? That is the question presented by Drew Barrymore’s dress, splattered all over the interweb today on sites like this one, http://projectrungay.blogspot.com/2009/09/in-or-out-drew-barrymore.html. Have you all seen this dress and asked yourself this question? Have you seen any patterns for this kind of thing?
