From Both of Us — Just a Little Edit

Filed under: Topsy Turvy pattern — Both Sisters @ 10:55 pm

One of our readers expressed a bit of difficulty with the Topsy Turvy Moebius pattern.  We realized that the pattern could use some additional clarity, so we revised it.

The change relates to the stitch count needed to shorten or lengthen the moebius.  As the pattern is written, each half of the moebius = 216 sts, which is a multiple of 16 sts + 8.  The two halves together = 432 sts, which is a multiple of 16 sts.  To adjust the length of the moebius, you need to add or subtract a multiple of 16 sts from the original total of 216, making sure that each half remains a multiple of 16 + 8.  Stitch counts that work are: 248, 232, 216, 200, 184, 168, etc.

There wasn’t an error in our directions, but we realized that it was a little murky. We hope this did not cause any problems for all of you knitters out there!!

  1. I started this pattern 3 times and finally got so frustrated…just could not grasp the concept that you have to go all the way around until that marker is back on top of the cable for a complete round….very strange things were happening. The 4th time, I am making it with just a plain old garter stitch. My next one will be your lovely pattern….Thanks for writing this pattern. I can’t wait to actually knit it!

  2. Help!! I love the shawl, but can’t seem to access any moebius cast-on sites. The ones I have found have videos, and with dial-up internet, the download-time is prohibitive. The village public library has no current knitting books. Do you know of any still-photo links that would tell me how to cast on?

  3. Dear Susan and Sally,

I have accessed your website and am so impressed! I have a question for either of you. We have family Christmas stockings that were knitted by my mom. They are green, white and red with a Santa face who’s beard is soft fuzzy yarn. Marti said that you may have the pattern for this. Nathaniel, age 3, does not have a matching stocking. Mom died 9 months before he was born. Is there any way you could help me with this? I look forward to hearing from you. Please provide me with your e-mail and mine is attached to this comment. I wish I knew how to knit! These patterns are amazing! Bonnie

  4. I’m making this beautiful Moebius. Have a question – I’m starting row 9 – instructions for
    rows 9,11,13 and 15 read *knit 8
(yo, K2tog) 4 times. Repeat from * to end of round.
Should the * be just before the
    (yo, K2 tog)4 times and then K8.
If * is in the right spot, then shouldn’t the instructions delete the 4 times and just say repeat to end of row?
    I’d sure appreciate your help.
Thanks so much – Betty Smith
