….sweater weather! Fall is in the air and I am thrilled! I love that little nip in the temperature — this morning was 46 degrees F. My summer wardrobe (a pathetic collection of shabby chic without the chic) has worn thin in more ways than one. I love sweater weather and it has begun.Â

Susan- I couldn’t agree more. No more humidity and blazing hot sun. The smell of rotting
leaves, woodsmoke, russett apples, I love it all. Oh, and pumpkins, don’t forget the pumpkins!

From Susan — I’m glad I’m not the only weirdo who loves the cooler weather and the falling leaves! I could not live in the warmer climes and miss out on wearing my sweaters.

A few years ago I knit up a Trellis Jacket that comes kitted from Jamieson and Smith
and is attributed to Susan Rainey on the front cover and Sally Rainey on the
inside. Assuming that’s you, I just wanted to say that I really like the
design – double-stranding that stitch pattern using Shetland is an inspired
choice. Thanks for that, and good luck with your knitting and designing.

Hi! I have a question referring to a post from a few days back, but I wasn’t sure if I posted it there if it would get read…I made the dough for the shortbread cookies, and after mixing, it didn’t ball. rather, it stayed a pretty wet-sand texture. I didn’t want to overmix it and produce a tough cookie, so I figured I would refrigerate the dough to see what happens…now it’s a big hard brick-ball of crumbly stuff. Is this right? I’ve never made shortbread cookies before, so I figured I’d ask the source rather than make another mess! 🙂 TIA!

From Susan: re the shortbread cookies. I use my Kitchenaid mixer which is certainly not gentle with the dough. Take the dough out of the fridge and let it soften a bit and remix until it forms a ball. If it does not ever get to the ball stage it probably needs more butter. If you followed the proportions, though, it should turn out with further mixing. Don’t give up!
