From Susan — Beautiful Weekend

Hope you were able to enjoy this long weekend, the harbinger of summer.  It is one of those odd holidays because it is based on sadness, but is celebrated with picnics and water sports.  I feel conflicted because I have personal reasons for honoring this day.

So, enjoy the beautiful weekend.  Enjoy the rite of spring and summer.  And honor the sacrifice of our service men and women, and the families they left behind.

  1. I can’t remember a Memorial Day weekend – all 3 days – where we’ve had such beautiful weather. A perfect day to honor those men and women who served.

  2. Based on sadness – and deep respect.

I like to think that the family gatherings represent some of the best of what these men and women gave their lives for.

  3. My grandfather fought in World War I in France.
My father was a POW of the Germans in World War II and fought in Korea. He’s buried in Arlington.
My husband is a veteran of Vietnam.

    I honor and I remember.

  4. Don’t feel strange about enjoying the lovely weather and having a wonderful weekend. That’s what they were all fighting for – consider it your duty to live well and enjoy life for those that made the ultimate sacrifice. Love to you from someone else who has personal reasons as well. xox
