If we follow the logic of Sally’s recent post, we are our mother’s FOs! As loyal readers may remember, we lost our mother two years ago right about this time. We both think of her often and her loss left a hole that will never be filled. This is the picture we shared of her from her wedding day:
The dress is gorgeous. We brought it back with us, but it had been ravaged by time. The black and white photo above does not do the color justice and you cannot see all of the love and perfection our grandmother put into it. The dress is pale pink organza. Here are some detailed shots:
The Back
The buttonholes are hand sewn
The deep hem
We can’t call our mom today, but she — and both of our grandmothers — are still in our hearts. Happy Mother’s Day to you and yours.
I,also, have saved a jacket my mother made. She made a blue shantung silk sheath with a jacket. The jacket was blue cotton lace lined with the silk. Exquisite. I wore it to a dance in high school. I remember your tribute to your Mom and it moved me so much.

What a beautiful picture! I see both of you in her! And your grandmother’s loving workmanship almost made me cry. When my mother died I found a densely-embroidered blue-on-natural linen pillowcase she had stitched as a young woman. She also sewed, entirely by hand, a reversible summer sundress for me when I was a young adult. It looked terrific. She also, of course, knitted. And it was she who taught me. How lucky we are to have had such mothers.

What a lovely post. your mom was gorgeous and the dress is very special. My mom’s wedding dress is gone but she made my wedding dress for me and I have it preserved. I lost my mom 2 months ago and cherish the memories.

I am hoping that Nora tries on her grandmother’s dress, that you take a picture and then post it for us to all enjoy! A beautiful dress on a beautiful girl.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful picture of your Mother and her beautiful dress made by your Grandmother. It’s as close to perfect as one can imagine: a beautiful bride, a beautiful dress, and a beautiful capture of both in that b&w photo.
