Recently I referred to a project that I just couldn’t get finished – a smallish summer top that took me forever! It is a cute design that takes:
This —
Plus this —
and ends up with this:
I love my “Sweetheart Tunic,” but it is wool and not suited for summer wear. I thought the same type of style would be nice in cotton. The design is called Tabitha and the yarn it called for is Riveting (cute!), by Kollage (I used Night Denim).
The yarn is actually made out of recycled blue jeans and has a very stiff, coarse feel, but I liked it. It is T-I-N-Y (350 yds/100 gms) and therefore requires small needles. And lots of knitting! Add the fact that it is meant to shrink as denim does, and you need to knit a lot more to accommodate the shrinkage effect. It is only supposed to shrink in length, but mine seemed to shrink in all directions. Put all those variables together and it took me quite a while to finish this one.
The above picture shows Tabitha before machine washing and drying. It does get smoother and “firmer” with washing. And the obligatory “Lettie wearing it on the deck” photo:
I wore it today and pretty much liked it. Yay!! Ravelry Project Link.
Oh that’s pretty. I like it.

Really cute (which is a good thing since I have the same yarn).

I really like it, too! Saw you during class on Sat. and it looks fab on you! You will get a lot of wear out of it I’m sure! Beautiful job of knitting – as usual! Thanks again for the fun and productive class!!

Cute! I seem to be collecting patterns for tank tops this summer. Guess I better go have a look at this one.

Really pretty, Susan. You are really a fast (and excellent) knitter!

It looks so comfortable, like an old pair of jeans! (But much prettier.)

lovely — I didn’t know Kollage had a denim yarn (I’ve been using Rowan’s denim) but the color is lovely and I’m glad you like it after all that work that simply shrunk away.

Very cute! You did a lovely job!
I’m working on this same pattern right now, and the skirt is stretching out into forever. It’s nice to see another finished one, as there’s not many on ravelry.
I also appreciate seeing your modifications. I’ve been wondering if I want to knit the front closed.
I’m not accustomed to knitting adult-sized garments, and the whole “it will fit after I wash it” scares me, because I can’t ensure that it fits until it’s too late.

Love both the pattern and the fabric and I’m always in awe of the workmanship. There is something about denim that you always feel in the mood to wear it. Not like silk where you feel you are wearing something you have to live up to so it doesn’t get worn as often. I bet you wear this tank a lot. And at night you can even put a sparkly pin on it. At least that’s how I roll. You’ve got me convinced.

P.S. Do they have a denim yarn in turquoise? No? Oh. (Sniff.)
