Hi, fellow knitters! I have been doing a lot of knitting but because I am “multi-tasking” (i.e., suffering from startitis), I have little to show for it.
I DID finish two Hats for the Homeless and delivered them to Ingebretsen’s on Lake Street. They had a nice pile collected of vary gaudy colorful hats bearing large pom poms. Hmmm. I am such a “doobie” that I made two black wool hats — one a Quincy and another from my One Day Hat pattern. No pom poms. No color. Boring, but that is what they said we should make!
I am also making some Christmas gifts. I found a pattern on Ravelry for these Classic Bread Basket Liners and thought that with a cute basket and terra cotta bread warmer, it would be a nice gift. I am using my leftover denim yarn (Riveting) because it is washable, but I think a cotton/linen blend would be even better. I realized that the baskets I bought are not the best choice, so now the hunt begins…
The Bread Basket Liner is a really fun knit and actually looks like woven fabric. I will share a picture when it is done. Hope you are enjoying the cooler weather — fall has definitely landed in Minnesota!
PS: purlgin mentioned a site called SERRV that sells fair trade handmade items from international artisans. I bought three of these baskets and warmers! They look perfect! One is for me…
You said “bread basket liner,” and my first thought was “????” It didn’t sound too promising. But I looked at it and it is great. Maybe in, as you suggest some nice linen or cotton/linen. I am wondering whom, among my potential giftee’s would like one.

I’ve suddenly got the urge to knit blankets and throws which I think means Fall has arrived here in London as well – sadly without quite the same glorious colours.

I, too, sent in 2 hats per your blog – one gray and brown stripe, and one gray. Received a lovely thank you note. Plan on knitting a few more.

This project has been in my favorites for quite a while – but I’m probably being stupid and trying for a handspun yarn to use. Meanwhile, the leaves in your photo make me homesick for New England where I grew up. Oh I miss the maple trees in their massive display of colors. We have colors here in TN, just not quite as bright and they trickle over about 3 months.

Great idea on the basket liner. I just happened upon the website of a nonprofit group called SERRV that says they sell handmade fair trade goods from artisans in developing countries. It was full of beautiful baskets, and I think they had at least one ceramic breadwarmer as well. (Lots of potential knitting baskets, too.) I have no connection to this group, but I try to buy gifts that help the maker. Thank you for your blog and your beautiful work. I’ve been reading and enjoying it for years without commenting.

thanks for the reminder to drop off my hats. Mine are grey, dark green, brown … very plain per their request!
Nice leaf picture.
