From Susan — The Peacock Has Landed

FINALLY!! And completely worth the wait.  The color is stunning and perfect for the Peacock Shawl — the picture does not do it justice.  I start tonight, mes amies!

I am loving this yarn, the color and the knitting.  I have 40 rows done — which sounds impressive, doesn’t it?  It’s about 4 square inches!

PS:
I have not had the bleeding problem yet — bummed to hear about it :(.  Is there a way to set the color when you block it, like by adding some vinegar??  Any ideas/experience with this?

  1. I knit a shawl out of the Peacock color. It’s lovely, but had the unfortunate side effect of bleeding all over my fingers and needles. My (wooden) needles -still- have the Peacock-colored stains on them. So, beware. 😉

  2. Love that colour! I was thinking of pairing it with the teal or jade in DK weight for Persian Tiles. Feel free to tell me I’m crazy 😉

  3. Most fabulous! And like Lisa, my Zephyr is also bleeding. I am using Addis, so nothing there, but my fingers are blue!

  4. Ooh. DK weight for the Persian Tiles. Intriguing.

My Mahogany color didn’t bleed at all while I was knitting. I’ve had that happen before with some yarns, but not with the Zephyr. I will say that when I blocked my Peacock Shawl, there was a lot of staining in the water, but the color when the shawl dried didn’t seem faded at all.

  5. I just finished my Peacock shawl – you will love the pattern, enjoy! As for bleeding, you could re-set the dye by simmering gently for 20 min (120F for silk) in water with a healthy “glug” of vinegar. Turquoise colors are difficult to exhaust, just in general, and you may find that it bleeds for a while no matter what.

  7. Susan- In my previous incarnation as a quilter (not a very good one) I used salt as a fixative in
cold water- the reds were the problem.

That color is gorgeous, and we demand a modelling shot- you wispy wench!
