From Susan — Proud Sister

Sally just called from the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival and gave me an update on how her entries fared — she swept the show!!  Her two shawls took first (Feather and Fan) and second place (Peacock) and her Bohus took first.  She told me she didn’t think she’d win anything and I kept saying, “You may already BE a wiener!”

Way to go, Surly!!  You already ARE a wiener!

PS — Sally found out what her special awards were for:

  • Best Hand Knitted Article — Awarded by the Central Maryland Knitting Guild (for the F&F shawl)
  • Best Sweater Knitted from Commercial Yarn
  • Best Hand Knitted Article from Commercial Yarn (also for the Bohus) — she got 110 points out of 100 (!).  The extra points were awarded for difficulty.

  3. I didn’t see the feather and fan but I saw Peacock and the Bohus, and I recognized the Bohus as hers because of the edging on the sleeves and waistband. They were lovely!

  8. I just got back from MSWF and saw Sally’s triumph. They were all gorgeous! The attendants were most zealous in protecting the knitted garments. Every time I reached over to read the cards, someone hissed at me “Don’t touch!” So your work is safe from scruffy hands. Sally, I’m proud to know ya!

  10. I’d like to thank my family, the Academy . . . ooops. Wrong acceptance speech.

I’ll write a post about the Festival tomorrow. Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts!

  11. I, too, saw Sally’s items at the festival this afternoon. There was the Bohus, standing proudly upright in the center, encrusted in purple ribbons! I did a double-take…wait–I know that Bohus! Then I spotted the beautiful Peacock Feather shawl and the Feather and Fan. Sally, you do such beautiful work. You inspire and challenge all of us. Great job, sweeping the festival!

  12. I just got back from MSWF also, and everyone is right- all of your pieces were/are beautiful. You deserve all the ribbons you received. (I covet that Bohus).
