That is the tapping of my toes as I wait impatiently for the post. I am hoping that my next knitting project will soon arrive. I am going to make the Kauni Cardigan, which is the new “it” project.  I did not mention “it” sooner because I did not want the hoarders to buy up all the yarn before I could get MINE ordered!! Unfortunately, I mentioned this project to Amy Detjen and she promptly ordered and received her yarn ;). She has already started!
So, what is the Kauni Cardigan?? It is a free pattern designed by Ruth Sorensen of Denmark that uses Kauni EQ yarn — a Rainbow colourway — to create a simple faux fair isle sweater using only two skeins of yarn. The yarn does all of the heavy lifting.Â
This is not the best picture, but you get the idea.Â
Lisette Bilskov of the Yarn Store in Denmark carries the yarn and is very nice to work with. Sally, Kim and I ordered our yarn together because the cost of shipping from Denmark is nearly equivalent to the cost of the yarn itself. For approximately $50 worth of yarn, it costs $40 to ship. It was only $180 for the yarn for three sweaters when shipped together.
This is the perfect mindless knitting project for soccer this summer. For every ten rows of pattern, only 4 involve stranding, and the stranding is absolutely mindless. I had planned on doing the Large Lace Collar Bohus, but could not get myself motivated to do the collar portion — it will now have to wait until fall.
So, I wait…tap, tap, tap 😉
PS — the link from Marina (see comments) had a swatch showing the gradual change in the colors:
… those soccer games can be mighty looong — you’ll probably finish yours after just a couple of them!

Shipping might be cheaper from the UK. I used to buy a lot from Janette/4to4 who ships everything promptly and by air.

From Susan — to Marina: Thanks for the link. I think the price may even out. The shipping is less but the yarn is more. All sources are welcome!!

OOOh- I am so glad that you ordered the yarn! I can’t wait to see it in progress! Thanks
also for Amy’s link. Hey – is Sally still coming to town next week? I would love to come
to your knitter’s night out at Panera…I guess I am inviting myself…what time do you
start?

Hi Susan, Can’t wait to see the new sweater in progress! It looks gorgeous. Your felted bag is really neat, too.

That certainly looks like a fun one! Now, just how does one get to the point where it ranks the “it” status??? Dontcha wonder just who gets the fun rolling?

Who would believe such an incredible sweater could be so easy! Would be nice to find that yarn in the states though! I had such a DOH! moment, I had been confusing you with someone in Australia for a long time! DOH! Thank you for your nice comment:) Both bags were crocheted, but I’ve learned of a free learn to net site through a “string bag” along I belong to. I thought, huh! netting…knitting. We shall see:)

::sigh:: I love that sweater! Plus, when you knit it I’ll have time to catch up on Peacock Feathers. 😉

LOL-Your accent threw me a little, but it was a mix up with user ids. Your Down Under self is “live2knit” and it doesn’t take much to confuse me 😉 Next string bag is definitely a knit!

Yes! I’m coming to Minneapolis next week and Susan plans on bringing me to Panera’s!

I, too, have been eyeing the sweater ever since I saw Purlwise begin hers. Also, I plan on starting the Large Lace Collar JACKET this fall/winter== I’m not sure if I talked to you or your sister about it at the last MKG meeting. Seems we have similar taste in projects!

Susan- I’ve had my Kauni for some time- but I hate to say, it’s a little too easy.
Make sure you turn off your brain before you start.
It is amazing yarn- somewhat like Shetland. Hope it gets there soon.

From Susan to Lorraine: I’ll be at soccer — my brain will be off for sure! I’ll be focusing solely on my little darling as she executes her amazing moves!! [she says with tongue planted firmly in cheek!]

That sweater is simply beautiful. It’s been a treat to watch Purlwise’s progress. Do you suppose you could make it in another type of yarn? It wouldn’t be as spectacular, but maybe?

From Susan to Wendy O — One of the hallmarks of this yarn is the long, very gradual color changes. I think other yarns might work, but would definitely have a little different look. Ruth Sorensen has another design that looks very “Hanne Falkenberg” that uses a grayish brown colourway and is stunning. Very classic.

I looked at the form to order the yarn in Denmark. How ddid you ever figure it out? Thats a long way to ship but I am sure it will be worth it !

You can click on the Brittish flag on the top right hand corner of The Yarn Store website to get English.
I was perplexed for a while — but finally figured it out! LOL
The site will also translate to dollars or Euros.
Just ordered some of the Crayon color — after I ordered 2 different colorways last night on Ebay from 4to4.
I am going to be swimming in Kauni here in about a week or so!!!

From Susan — Thanks, Kath! I did email Katomliz to tell her how to switch to English, etc., but perhaps I should have shared that info with everyone!!
