From Susan — What was I thinking?

I keep knitting, but continue to second guess myself on this project! It could end up beautiful or pitiful…only time will tell. It is a lot of knitting, too, which means my “return on investment” could be terribly in the red. However, I keep telling myself it is only knitting, not a cure for cancer, so the outcome is not that important in the big scheme of things.

The project: Daydreams in Lace from Knitters 100th Issue (yes, I said Knitters!):

K100_6234_medium2

Yes, I see myself as a 100-pound flower child from 1971. Do you have a problem with that?

The yarn: Madelinetosh Light in color Midnight Pass. I would show a picture of the color but it is impossible to capture. I mean IMPOSSIBLE! But picture the most intense turquoise/aqua in the world and you will have it. You need sunglasses to look at it directly.

This is my progress so far:

.

Believe it or not, it actually fits when I tried it on. Lettie is not thrilled:

.

Again, even as I look at these photos, I keep wondering…what the beeboop am I thinking??!! I forced Sally to buy some of this yarn as well…she will share her project in due time!!

From Sally

Susan is right — her photos do NOT capture the color. It is the most intense turquoise I’ve ever seen. It is a much bolder color than either of us usually knits with, but I like it.

  2. I have one skein of that colorway in the Chunky. So gorgeous. I’m glad you pointed out this pattern. I actually really like it (though will definitely make it shorter).

  3. I like the yarn, color and pattern. Can’t wait to see the finished project. Knit on!

  4. One of life’s joys is looking like a fluorescent flower child. Another is seeing one. It will be fabulous!

  6. Hi,
Beautiful color and beautiful lace. I don’t think hippy at all when I see it. Keep going! It’ll be lovely.

  7. I think you were thinking what I’m thinking right now. WANT! I just spent a good chunk of my lunch break figuring out how to get the pattern.

  8. Stunning! Both the color and the pattern. I’m looking forward to seeing the end result too.

  10. You’ve got to be kidding? This would be gorgeous on either one of you.

  11. Well, I definitely see the attraction – it will be a beautiful sweater, whether you find yourself wearing it often or not. You might be surprised though.

  12. Knitting a pattern like that is like reading a good mystery — you just never know until the last page how it will end.

  13. I too am an aging flower child and just this week looked at the same pattern. Being quite a bit “fluffier” than either of you, I’m thinking I might look like a house wrapped in a lace tablecloth – but I love the pattern and might do it anyway

  14. Pattern and yarn are both gorgeous in my eyes. You, too. What’s the problem?

  15. Quite a beautiful fabric this is turning out to be. And I really loved that issue of Knitters. Will have to go back and revisit it now.

  16. Can’t think this is going to be anything short of gorgeous on you! You have the height for it to look its best. Please stop worrying and enjoy each stitch!

  17. It’s beautiful and I love the color! This pattern has been in my queue for while and I really want to make it soon. I have a question though. I love Madelinetosh but it does tend to pill a bit. Are you concerned about it being in single-ply merino? I was thinking of their sock yarn or the plied lace weight. Any thoughts? Would the lace-weight be too fine?

  18. I was intrigued by this pattern as well (it was an oddly good issue), but haven’t been able to find a yarn I like in the right weight (it’s sort of a light fingering?)… I look forward to seeing how your version comes out. Both of you do such great knitting!

  21. It’s a gorgeous colour; it reminds me of the deepest and sunniest tropical pools; perfect winter knitting!

  22. I love those nuclear-fission turquoises. AND I love the coat/sweater design. Go forth boldly!

  23. Wow, that’s so beautiful! Will I see it at the State Fair later this summer??

  24. I was a 115 pound flower child in 1971, and I wore crocheted shawls that I made by winging it. I also made some god awful brown, gold and off white crocheted vests. And I sewed all my own clothing and had curly hair (which I ironed to get it straight) down to my waist. I got married in January 1971 and my husband wore a purple wale-less corduroy vest suit! Now that I can afford to purchase clothing and knit with nice yarn, I no longer weigh 115 pounds!!!! Sigh.

  25. I just checked out that Knitter’s issue from the library (I figured there had to be at least a few nice things in that thick magazine) and admired this pattern before sadly turning the page- I know it is beyond my time and patience limitations at this point. Your WIP looks stunning. The thing is that fine knits are so flattering- it’s ok not to be 115 lb. And yet, bulky knits are so quick. 🙂

I can’t wait to see this finished. You’ll turn heads all over the Cities!
