From Susan — You’re Stuck with Me

At least for the time being.  Sally is off gettin’ book learnin’, so I’ll be your blogging hostess for the week — feel free to add something, Surly!

Last evening was the Knitters Guild meeting which I described in Sunday’s post.  We had a HUGE turn out which kind of surprised me because it was only advertised on the MKG website.  There had to be 100 people there, including two of my favorite knitting peeps, Kim and Mary (hi!).  Being a VP of the Knitters Guild is a highly glamorous position (I have the bruises to prove it): setting up the chairs and tables, hauling the boxes of books, etc.  But it was a great event.  I thought Amy was a wonderful speaker.  She spent most of her presentation describing the characteristics of many non-wool fibers and it was QUITE interesting.  Her slides were fabulous, and as a person who uses PowerPoint daily on the job, I was notably impressed!

Here is proof that my future as a photo-journalist is in serious jeopardy (she’s waving at me):

The picture I took of Amy herself is so blurry she cannot be recognized!  All in all it was great fun and a good excuse to hang out with a hundred of my favorite people.

  1. Sounds like fun! You know, they don’t seem to take their knitting seriously here. We don’t have a knitters guild and maybe a 25% the number of stores you have there.

  2. Sounds like a good night.

  3. Susan- You have to admire Amy Singer- Knitty is a highly creative, fun concept.
She’s removed some of the stigma that we’re all little old ladies in rocking chairs.

  4. From Susan — I was surprised that Amy did not talk about Knitty more during her presentation last night. She referenced it occasionally, but I thought she might talk about its genesis, philosophy, etc. She spent her time on specific content from the book, which as I said was very inetersting.

  5. Oh, how I wish I could have been there, but last night was when the rest of my family returned from their far-flung weekends and I wanted to be home to welcome them. Looks like it was a great evening. btw, the event was on Amy’s blog, too, plus I think the guild may have e-mailed announcements to everyone who registered for Yarnover. I know I kept tripping over announcements and yearning to go.

Is that Dolores waving in the lower left corner of the first slide?

  6. Wish there were events like that here! At least I get good detailed reports of these things. And I just ordered her book 2 days ago!

  7. That does look a bit like Dolores. Nice job, Madame Vice President.

  8. I am not yet a member of the MN Knitters Guild. I wanted to pass on my thanks for hosting this event. My friends and I had a great time! Amy’s talk was entertaining and educational. The guild welcomed the visitors warmly, the upcoming events sound like fun, and I’m closer to committing time to joining ANOTHER group.

Betty (I watched the extra books for you at the very end of the line)

  9. From Sharon in Utah – The photos of MKG members at the recent meeting brought back such wonderful memories (even though all I saw was the back of their heads). I was a member of MKG for many years, served as Recording Secretary for one year, and served on Yarnover committee and took in registrations one year. MKG is a wonderful organization and I have never found another group as helpful and informative in the two other locations I have lived since moving from Minnesota. Keep up the good work.

  12. You know it’s really odd. Whenever I try to reply to your emails, the messages come back undeliverable. I’d love the kit but will not have you put any $$ out for it! Please email me the $$ and where to send it…. and really…whenever you get around to it… don’t rush for me 🙂
    Thanks a kazillion!
