Sally has been wowing the knitting masses with her stunning Japanese knitting.  I have not been wowing or Japanese knitting or anything exciting like that .  I did think I would share the final chapter of the scarf I made.  I “borrowed” an idea I heard about from a reader of Grumperina’s blog.  I am not a reader of her blog, but someone told me that when she gives socks away, she makes a label for them.  I thought that sounded like a cute idea for my scarf, and thought I would share it with you:

The picture in the background is me with Grandma Thelma — she made the dress I’m wearing

I included a picture of the scarf being worn so the recipient will understand my “motivation.”  I also included care instructions so it will not get washed and dried in the machine .   I printed the label on high quality photo paper.

Because the rolled up scarf was too big for the label, I tied it in the back with leftover yarn:

The color shown here is very true.  So, there you are.  I think it makes a pretty cute little gift and hope the recipient enjoys it.

I wish I had a knock out to show you like Sally has been working on — maybe the next time!

  2. The wrapped presentation is a fabulous idea! The scarf is simply beautiful. Plus, it’s a gift from the heart, so what could be better?! Your blog on how long it took you to make the scarf was also very humorous, so all around, it was fun to watch the progress from start to wonderful finish. Bravo!

  5. I agree that Sally’s sweater is a knockout, but something I would never try. Your gift idea is one I can use. I enjoy watching everything you two make.

  7. I’m a native Minnesotan, but have lived in North Central Texas since I was 9 years old. I never understood why knitters were always blogging or posting about the scarves they knit. Other than a comparatively quick knit, I just didn’t see the big deal about scarves. That is, until a year ago when I was in Kansas City in November on a business trip. I wore a very warm coat, but it did nothing to protect my neck from the cold blasts of wind whipping around the buildings when I was outside. It was certainly an “ah ha” moment for me, and I envied all around me who were sporting warm scarves!

I love your scarf, both the stitch pattern and the color!

  8. Where’s my camara!!! What a great idea and yours is so “organic”, that’s the only word I can think of to describe the yumminess that is your scarf. Thank you for such a great blog, I read it every morning with my coffee, it’s my alone time and starts my day on the right foot. Today in TN it is rainy and 35 degrees, snow is promised for later, I think I shall curl up with a new scarf project tonight…Thank you

  9. Hey, I’m the chicken gobbling person you met in the cafe who admired your lace knitting, and talked about yarn camp. I surfed into your blog, and realized I have read quite a lot of your stuff. After lunch, I told my friends I met a famous knitter. As non initiates into our world, they were underwhemed! The work the two of you crank out is amazing to me. And the Chinese knitting is gorgeous.

  10. Susan, I love to see all your knitting. It is all gorgeous and I am sure Sally will be making a scarf some day also and she will have to post that while you are posting your Large Lace Collar Bohus. Hint, hint.

  11. Susan- Au contraire, it is a thing of beauty, and being a gift, it makes it that
    much more special.

    You are way too modest.

  13. Very nice presentation and scarf. The wrapping makes a difference, doesn’t it? So much time and love to make and then toss in a gift bag? I think not. Bravo
