From Susan — How did it turn out?

Well.  I finished my Waking Tide and wore it last evening to knitting group.  Kathy W. already commented on it.  It turned out the way I planned.  I had not planned on it making me look like a bus.  BUT, that is not necessarily the sweater’s fault!!  😉

I added buttons to the side “seams” and made the back a little longer than the front.  I also made it swingy so it would not be a fitted pullover.

I added ribbing to the edges as well – I thought there needed to be more “weight” on the hems and I wanted the sleeves to fit better.

All in all, I would say it is a very wearable sweater, though not real flattering.  I don’t care too much about that.  I was looking for something to throw on when I did errands and this will certainly serve that purpose!!

PS — Anya asked if you could add the lace panel to a plain sweater  (written by someone else) to avoid the sizing issue of the yoke.  That is how the original was designed.  The body and sleeves were fine.  Lace does have a different gauge than non-open type stitch patterns, so you might have the same issues.  Maybe you could do separate gauge swatches to see how many sts to remove.

  1. I saw it last night and LOVED it!

  2. Here’s a question: I love the yoke lace pattern, but the sweater pattern as a whole sounds rather deeply flawed. Do you think it would be possible for a moderately advanced knitter to insert the lace yoke into a plain sweater pattern? e.g. Ann Budd’s Knitter’s Handy Book– yoke sweater, but put this pattern in instead of making it plain. ?? 🙂

  3. I know this sweater was a pain, but I just love it. I especially like the buttoned side – great idea. However, I’m not about to try it myself.

  4. There was a sweater at camp a couple years ago that so many tried on and looked great wearing. I looked like a bus. I liked the basic pattern anyway and knit it a bit differently to find it looks ever so much better. But then, when did I ever completely follow a pattern? Not in this lifetime. I’m sure you’ll love it regardless of this momentary bus comparison!

  5. Great sweater. I love your modifications. They really add to the original pattern! You both continue to amaze and greatly impress me with your design and knitting expertise.

  7. Thanks so much for sharing your work. It is inspiring to see you complete a project that wasn’t working as written. Love the way it looks and hope this becomes a favorite for you to wear on errands.

  8. Beautiful. And I’m sure it doesn’t make you look like a bus, it’s the wrong color for a start.

  9. I think that sweater is just beautiful and I love the details you made. I am so impressed and in complete awe of your talent and skill. I know I would not have the slightest idea how to make all those changes and additions to make it work. You inspire us, and thank you for sharing this with us.

  11. I’m a busty lady and round yokes always make me look the a bus, so I avoid them entirely. That said, the minute I saw this one I had been mulling over how I could use that yoke in some other way in a different sweater style. I think the sweater as you display it looks lovely, but I appreciate all of your honest comments because it will save me from myself!

  12. I was wondering, do you recall the color name of the yarn you used for the edge of your borderline done in fiber story? I love the colors and need that additional color for mine.

    Thanks
