We are just about to celebrate our 10th Bloggiversary!! March 20 marks the momentous occasion. It really doesn’t seem possible. Though we have had times when we wanted to quit, and certainly times when we didn’t post very often, we both still enjoy it. The blog’s original purpose continues to ring true — read our first posts!!
From Sally – March 20, 2006
My sister Susan and I decided to start a joint blog focused on our knitting; we live 1000 miles apart but we talk on the phone almost every day and most of the time we’re talking about knitting. We have absolutely no idea how to create a website, but we do know how to knit.
From Susan – March 20, 2006
Sally and I share many interests, but knitting is our passion. We decided to share a blog because, as I said to her, it’s like having a garage sale — I don’t have enough to do one of my own.
C E L E B R A T I O N
How better to celebrate than with fabulous prizes! We are giving away THREE wonderful prizes to lucky readers/commenters.
PRIZE ONE: Rack Up a Shawl
Susan’s Rakke Shawl is being given away to a lucky reader. This design by Susanna IC was knit in LOFT (color: Long Johns), and would be a beautiful accent piece for your fall or winter wardrobe:
PRIZE TWO: Feeling Plucky??
Originally purchased with the Camilla Shawl in mind, this coveted yarn from Plucky Knitter could be used for any of the wonderful multi-colored shawls found on Ravelry. Three skeins of Plucky Oxford (430 yards/115 grams, 75% merino and 25% cashmere), one each in Steelcut, Wingtips, and Hats Off:
PRIZE THREE: Tynd to Your Knitting
This yarn is confused. It thinks it is 100% merino (Woolfolk Tynd 223 yards/50 grams, color Navy), but it makes cashmere feel like sandpaper!! This yarn would make luscious fingerless or regular gloves because it feels so fabulous against the skin. Two skeins.
How to Win??
Three lucky winners will be selected at random on Thursday, March 24th by midnight and announced on March 25th.
Simply post a comment and make sure your email address is correct. We will pay shipping within the continental US.
If you have a preference for which prize or prizes you would like to win, include it in your post.
Thank you to all of our loyal readers. We have enjoyed hearing from you over the past ten years. You have encouraged us and raised our spirits on many occasions.
Happy Anniversary. A blog post from the two of you always makes it a good day.

Congratulations to you both! I’ve enjoyed reading your blog for quite a while now, and have appreciated the many, many useful tips. If I’m selected, I would love to have the Plucky Knitter yarn.
Comment by Carol — March 18, 2016 @ 1:38 pm
Congratulations on ten years! I had to think hard and try to find some mental road markers to figure out that I found your blog almost eight years ago – it doesn’t seem possible.
I do hope you will persevere (as you have done) even when you feel like giving up. The blog not only serves as an inspiration, but also gives me that warm feeling you get when you find yourself among “your people,” where they speak your language, and no-one will think you’re odd if you go off on tangents about yarns or construction methods.
Thank you, and here’s to the next ten years!
Comment by Sivani — March 18, 2016 @ 1:43 pm
Congratulations on your 10th Bloggiversary! Your site was one of the first blogs that I began to follow when I started down the long road to bloggerville. It’s been fun to follow your entries and I thank you both for giving of your time. Both the Plucky Knitter and Tynd would definitely put a big smile on my face. Diane
Comment by Diane — March 18, 2016 @ 1:48 pm
Congrats on the blogversary. I’d love any prize, but enjoy knitting so would really love either yarn prize. My queue has quite a few of your completed projects in it. So thanks too for the enabling.

Ten years! It is lovely to see what you two talented sisters knit. (I have been blogging for 9-1/2 years, altho my blog is on a two-month hiatus right now because too busy.)

I enjoy your blog! happy anniversary. I wish my sisters knit! But my Mom does.
Comment by Patt — March 18, 2016 @ 2:47 pm
I would love to win the yarn as my stash is actually not very impressive. It really lacks when it comes to the nicer yarns. Thanks for all the years of posting! Keep up the good work. 🙂

I read three knitting blogs–this one, Yarn Harlot and kmkat. You are all different and I love you all, but I learn from you. You make me think when you describe how you have customized a pattern. Also, I made the Sleeping Baby Castle blanket and loved every minute of it. Please keep blogging!
Comment by Mary Jo — March 18, 2016 @ 3:31 pm
Wow, congratulations on 10 years!! I really enjoy hearing about how your projects progress all the way to being finished, especially because I am a serial starter. =) I would love any of the prizes, but I’d be over the moon to win the shawl!

Wow! Ten years! Congrats!
Comment by Dana — March 18, 2016 @ 3:37 pm
It’s funny, my two sisters don’t knit, but reading your blog always makes me feel connected to them.
I read as much for the practical, how to approach modifications fearlessly posts as I do for the sense of family and sisterly bonds.
I would prefer yarn over the shawl, and the Plucky Knitter over the Tynd, but would gladly accept any one of the three.
Thanks for sharing your world with us.
Comment by Dibble — March 18, 2016 @ 3:39 pm

Ten years! Knitting = love = blogging…wonderful. I was so inspired by your gorgeous Woodfords, Susan, at the class on Sunday after the Janesville Knit In that I’ve cast on and am making quite good progress for such fine yarn. Thank you for the class, your wonderful insights and your blog. It always lifts my spirits to see that there’s a post from the Rainey sisters, even though I don’t comment as often as I should.
Comment by Amy C — March 18, 2016 @ 3:54 pm
Happy Blogiversary! I’ve been reading you two for a year or two now & eagerly look forward to your posts. Hope to read you for another 10 years. I’d love to win items # 2 or 3, but I’d gladly take any of the options off your hands!

Congrats to you both on your blogiversary!! I totally understand the two of you talking so often about knitting…I taught my sister to knit just so I’d have someone to talk to! If I were to win, I’d love either of the yarns but I am particularly enamored with those colors of Plucky! Love your blog and wish you another 10 successful years!

Comment by Susanne — March 18, 2016 @ 4:46 pm
Happy Anniversary! I haven’t been reading since the beginning, but it sure has been a long time. I fell in love with the Sleeping Baby’s Castle blanket, and have made it twice. I still have yet to try the stranding technique from It’s Not About the Hat, and just haven’t had time – but sure seems like a great technique (I’m hoping to use it on mittens). I love seeing your FO’s and appreciate the info about the mods you’ve made. I only wish I could knit as fast as the two of you!
If I should win a prize (how generous – we get the gift on your anniversary!) I would prefer one of the yarn prizes so I can create the item of my choice (from my extensive queue). Thanks!
Comment by Amy — March 18, 2016 @ 4:47 pm

Love the site, and you gals are really hot, but why not more patterns for men? Real men, the kind that ski, bike, and want to lounge in a gloriously macho sweater while dinner is being prepared?

I sure would miss you guys if you ever decided to quit blogging and so I wish you 10+ more years of informative, wonderful and fun blogging! Enjoy you both so much. I’m a blue girl so the Tynd would find a very good home with me. I made the Ropedance with Tynd purchased at The Yarnery! Very very soft yarn and it has held up so well as Ropedance is one of my favorites, frequently worn to fend off the winter cold. Maria

More yarn is always greatly appreciated. I have been knitting for 50 years but have not yet tried Plucky Knitter or Woolfolk (although the owner of my former LYS – before I moved – is a huge Woolfolk fan and I have been meaning to try some).

Happy 10th Anniversary, most blogs don’t last this long (mine, for instance). While the shawl is certainly lovely, as a guy, I don’t wear them, nor do I have anyone to give it to. Therefor, please only enter me for the two yarn prizes. KittenWhiplash on Ravelry thanks you for a wonderful giveaway, and wishes you continued success.

Happy Anniversary and Congratulations on 10 years. I love the yarn you are giving away in the drawing. I recently gave away two similar skeins to a friend who is moving back east with his partner to be closer to his grandchildren. It broke my heart to let the yarn go, but my friend leaving breaks my heart more. I told him to knit something for himself (which he never does) and send me a picture.

Your blog was the first one I followed several years ago thanks to that Brooklyn Tweed pattern you rewrote ca. 2011. So you are really the OG bloggers in my mind! First choice prize- #3, second choice- #2, third choice- #1. Happy 10th bloggerversary!

A chance to win something from your wonderful blog! How sweet of you. I have always enjoyed your blog, and have made many of the things you’ve shown! The one that sticks in my mind the most, is I made those darling little pie tape measures for my knitting group for Christmas a couple of years back. Thank you for your blog!

Congratulations on your anniversary! I would love the chance to win one of the fabulous yarn giveaways. The shawl is gorgeous, but I would never do it justice!
Just as an FYI- I love stalking your knitting at the Minnesota State Fair. Following your blog means I usually can identify your beautiful work. Congrats again!

I have been reading your blog for several years now. You are both fantastic knitters. I made your Smart Gloves a couple of years ago and they are the knitted item that gets the most comments of anything I wear! Looking forward to many more years of your blog.
