From Sally — It’s a Wrap (almost)

Filed under: Aran Wrap Cardigan — surly @ 11:24 am

I’m finished with the Aran Wrap Cardigan except for the dreaded last sleeve, which is often my downfall.  I do plan to pick it up today.  If I don’t, it’s liable to accidentally slip into my infamous languish pile along with so many other one-armed sweaters.

Here are some photos of its current progress.

I will also need to block it. I think my base rectangular piece is a little too narrow; I want to block it wider so that I get more length in the back. So far, however, I am fairly pleased with how it’s turning out. I think it will be a great sweater to throw on in cool weather instead of a light jacket.

P.S. OMG! I just read Elise’s comment, and she’s right — the angle of this photograph, and the inadvertent inclusion of a flower pot, makes it look as if I have an enormous bubble-shaped ass. I have never laughed so hard in my life. I thought about pulling the photo, but then thought that everyone else probably needs a good laugh, too.

  1. Unbelievable (in both speed and beauty). Here in Northern CA, it will be my winter coat (if I ever get started) :-).

  3. Sally- I have to say, it looks better and makes much more sense on an actual body- doesn’t it?

    So, what’s next?

  4. Give how much you’ve already accomplished, one little sleeve doesn’t seem like much.

I like the modeled shot best. It gives a sense of the drape of the fabric, and I had no idea that the yarn had that halo.

  6. It is just beautiful, and i’m with you on the SSS (second sleeve syndrome). i have to laugh at the unfortunate coincidence of a flower pot that matches your pants with the place where a really really big fanny might occur… and it looks like that gorgeous sweater is draping over it… 😉

  7. I have a friend who always knits the sleeves first! That way she never has second sleeve problems.

Love the look and drape. This was not originally a pattern that tempted me, but now I will have to reconsider.

  8. It’s beautiful. I didn’t notice the flowerpot till you mentioned it. lol

How much yarn did you use?

I have 1400+ yards in a handspun worsted weight I’m thinking about using for this.

  10. so glad you got a good laugh out of it — so did i, mostly because of the remarkable resemblance to my very own permanent flower pot accessory!

  11. Sally, I think some control-top pantyhose might fix that “bubble-ass” problem you’re got going on there! And, if you will always remember to stand with your right side against a wall, no one will ever guess that you didn’t knit a second sleeve.
