Today is Surly’s birthday.  Yay!!  Happy Birthday, Surly!!  What a tumultuous few months she has had.  She started out last July visiting Colorado and her daughter and son-in-law.  An idea that had been percolating went into full boil: should we move to Boulder?  They decided to do so, and thus began a saga of semi-epic proportions.

Sally is now on the verge of moving into her new Colorado home.  They leave a stunning home in our nation’s capitol to move into a sleek, modern “Colorado-style” house with views of the foothills.  Being in three different houses in as many months can be very stressful, but Sally has been able to reconnect with family in a way that makes it worthwhile.

So, the gift that Sally gets this month is to close on her old life home and start anew.  That is quite a gift at our age and very exciting.  Happy birthday wishes as you settle into your new life!!  It takes courage to change and shows a youthful spirit!!  🙂

  3. Happy birthday, Sally! I read of an informal study once where the researcher went into nursing homes and asked residents one question – “what is your biggest regret?” Overwhelmingly number 1 response was “didn’t take enough risks.” Cintas on going for the brass ring!

  5. Hi Sally, Happy Birthday to Susan’s sister. Congrats on your move and lifestyle change. You will love Boulder. Our son John graduated from CU and Tom and I made many trips out there to see him. The Peppercorn shop was my favorite store there. Now all you have to do is buy a new Subaru or a Volvo and you will fit right in! Cathy Rootness

  7. Happy belated birthday, Sally! I bet you are enjoying the Boulder area now that you are “in” your permanent home! Making such a move is truly a life changing experience! My daughter lived there for about 8 years but she and her then boyfriend decided to move as they were so disappointed with all the changes going on with Google moving in. Guess what! She moved back to Boulder in a year’s time and is soooo much happier being back. There were other extenuating factors but she is totally happy now. We have never been there so I cannot comment on the area but it sounds delightful to me. Just keep knitting and blogging for us fans! We love all the comments, photos, techniques and expertise you and Susan share with us!

  8. Congratulations on your move, Sally. Not just courage but a whole lot of work! I think that figures into a lot of decision-making as well. You are an inspiration on many levels to keep taking risks (the good kind, no betting the house away in Vegas), aways looking forward, valuing family, and so many other activities (such as your knitting passion) that keep you young. Happy birthday. Chloe
