From Susan – A Life in Disarray!

My knitting has been curtailed of late due to several factors.  The most obvious is that I had surgery on my right middle finger a couple of weeks ago that has limited my mobility.  As a right-handed “thrower,” my throwing is a bit off!

The other factor is the disruption of remodeling!

When we walked into the kitchen of our [now] home 21 years ago, we burst into laughter — it was the ugliest kitchen we had ever seen!  Photos do not do it justice.  In fact, if I was as photogenic, I would be a high-fashion model even at my present age.  😉  As ugly as it was, held off until now to remodel.

This is how it looked this morning – this does not show every other room, all of which are equally in chaos.  On Tuesday the cabinet installation will begin.  The countertop takes weeks to fabricate, and I have no idea when the flooring arrives!  Not to mention the lights, tile work, etc.  I had hoped to host Thanksgiving in our new kitchen, but may need to wait for Christmas!!

My husband is doing a lot of the work, so when I sit, knit, and watch TV I feel very guilty.  Because of this, yesterday I went downstairs to do all of the above to minimize the guilt!! 🙂

But, it will all be over soon enough.  I’ll post an “after” picture when it’s done!

  1. Oh, my! I went through this many years ago. We ate in basement and washed dishes in bath tub upstairs. Used lots of paper plates, cups etc. It was crazy but so worth the inconvenience. It will be so fun to see the after! You will be so appreciative and grateful to have gone through all the mess and disorganization! See you Thurs.!

  2. Try to think of it as Summer Camp. We brought our mattress into the dining room when a major pipe leak ruined the bedroom floor. My tall husband knocked his head on the chandelier every time he got up in the morning. We were young enough to laugh about it. So are you!

  3. We redesigned our kitchen a few years ago, after living with a really bad design for over 20, so I can relate! Here’s hoping for no delays or problems, and a wonderful new look to your kitchen (and speedy healing for your hand, too).

  4. Maybe this would be a good opportunity to try to learn to knit “continental” style. After I became (basically) competent with it, I found it much faster for, eg. hats worked in stockinette stitch, as well as for stranded knitting (one color “thrown,” the other “picked.”). But I still “throw” most of the time, esp. with stitches that alternate knit and purl (ribbing, seed). Hope all goes well with the kitchen re-do.

  5. You are a beautiful knitter that both discourages me but mostly inspires me!! Always looking for tips on how to improve!

  6. I am glad to see I am not the only one living in an ugly kitchen because the stress of changing it seems like too much work! Sorry about your finger, good excuse for not doing anything on the remodel, though. You wouldn’t want to reinjure it!
