From Susan — Fading Away

I just completed a project I have been working on off and on for months – my Comfort Fade Cardigan.  It was not my favorite thing to knit.  I didn’t think it was turning out and it was a LOT of knitting and futzing.  I used Goosey Squish DK in a Comfort Fade kit.  Unfortunately the kit wasn’t packed in the proper proportions so I had way more dark colors than light.  By the time I started it, I had had the kit a while, so I decided to make it work.  It meant a lot of adjusting along the way.  I survived! 😉

The sweater has this HUGE collar and I thought that might be something I would want to change…I didn’t.  The sweater is very low cut so you need the collar to fill in.  it is still pretty low cut on me!  obviously I will be wearing a blouse under it, but sweater is pretty open in the upper front.

In the regular pattern, the collar fades to the lightest color.  That means that the lightest color meets the darkest when folded over.  I like mine better!  I think I will wear this a lot this spring!!

PS to Chloe: I knit a lot.  I am a slow knitter, but I do knit a lot of the time!

  1. It looks great! At some point I’ll do a big faded project, and they’ll probably be out of style by then. 🙂 Too buys knitting for the kids at this point.

  2. I knit this pattern with Malabrigo Arroyo and I love how it turned out. I had knit 2 previous full sweaters with this yarn and didn’t like how they turned out so I ripped, washed, and reknit it into this. I wasn’t working on a faded pattern – and yes it seemed like a lot of knitting. It’s a cardigan – I assumed I would be wearing something under it? Yours turned out really nice though…I love the colors.

  4. Looks great. I always am inspired by seeing how you take a lemon and turn it into lemonade. IMHO–your ratio and placement of dark and light colors is more pleasing to my eye than that of the original sweater.

  5. How do you complete so many projects? You are a master knitter. This is beautiful, and I’ll bet flattering as well because it drapes so nicely!

  6. I too prefer your fade sequence to the original.

  8. Your cardigan is truer to the concept of Fade than the original. And I think the deep v of the collar is probably very flattering on you. You can carry it. Do you knit a lot, Susan or are you just always knitting, to explain your amazing productivity — or both?? Any which way, we are all the beneficiaries of it!

  9. Just chiming in with an agree–your colors fade in a much more pleasing way than many I’ve looked at, it *almost* makes me want to make one. Working the collar so that the edge matches the color of the shoulders was brilliant. We readers definitely benefit from your “analytical knitting” process, so thank you!
