From Susan — He’s Off

John just started!!  Bib #1013.

He is in a bumblebee suit, bumblebee hat AND one of the few bumblebee bibs! He is an “uberlegger” which means over 30 Birkies!  His bib is black with gold lettering.  They have live streaming in a few places along the course — Sally and I will be hunting for our favorite bee!

ETA: John won his age group!  His 35th Birkie was the best ever!!

PS to Rebecca: He finished in 3 hours, 9 minutes. 🙂

PS2 to Julie: John’s hat matched his ski suit.

Use of the adjective “bumblebee” was not meant to be taken literally!  He was wearing a stretchy ski suit in black and yellow – he is on the right in this picture (which is not very flattering of him IMHO):

I also got a short video of him crossing the finish line!

  7. Great news of John’s finish. Thirty five Birkie’s is a marvelous number. John has to be the ” Alex Ratelle of the Birkie!!! Alex ran 21 straight Grandma’s Marathons. John has certainly surpassed that number. Good going John! What a winter for cross country skiers.

  8. Congratulations to John, what an achievement – and he doesn’t even look as though he’s breathing hard!! Actually I know that’s not true, cross country skiing is the only sport which is possibly more aerobically challenging than rowing, it’s up for debate as any rower will tell you. And his outfit is spectacular!

  9. Belated congratulations to John! Somehow I missed this entry! What a great accomplishment! Loved the short video! Was that your voice cheering him on? You are too humble but wish you had mentioned this at Panera!

  10. Congratulations to John! He looks to be very fit for his age. Cross country skiing is a wonderful exercise! No beer belly at all. Tell him he was a very sexy bumblebee… It’s ok, I’m happily married to a kind generous man, with a belly the size of his great heart, but I love him so it’s ok.
