Buried under the snow and buried under my life!! 🙂 Well, that may be a bit of an exaggeration! I just got back from visiting Surly in Colorado (actually, I was visiting Loki!!). He is the cutest, sweetest thing you ever saw, but is a biter. He has sharp, pointy teeth and gnaws on you constantly!!
Loki is happily eating Sally’s knitting pattern! She must have printed 5 copies of that page while I was there!
So tired after all that trouble:
Right before I left I started a portable project for airplane knitting:
Time Trades
I had the gray/taupey gradient already (Miss Babs Yummy Two Toes Gradient – Pegasus Colorway), as well as the darker pink. The pink is from Alainn Yarns, Worn Suitcase Fingering in Lady Slipper Colorway.
I dragged several skeins of yarn with me so that when Sally and I went to Fort Collins to visit yarn shops, we could search for the perfect combination. We hit My Sister Knits (of course!!) and The Loopy Ewe. Both are great shops, but The Loopy Ewe is beyond anything you have ever seen. They have almost every yarn imaginable, in every colorway, in sweater quantities or more. BUT, they do not carry the Brooklyn Tweed line, which gives My Sister Knits their own special corner of the market — plus, it is adorable!! I ended up getting a pale speckle at Loopy Ewe that tied my colors together (I think the yarn is Dream in Color Smoochy???). The Lady Slipper is MUCH thinner than the pale speckle but I am using it anyway!!
My life is in a dither because we are soon to move. We bought a house, as I mentioned. We have lived here for over 20 years. The new house is bigger (square footage wise) but it feels like a downsize because it is laid out differently.
Today I am going to tackle my sewing/knitting room. Ack! The new house has an actual sewing room, but of course it isn’t as big as mine since I am currently using a bedroom with two large closets. Help…
PS to commenters: I WAS tempted to bring Loki home with me, especially since the next time I see him he will no longer be a puppy! And, Denise, you are so right about boxes! We are going to go pick up a bunch today that are on the small size for the mountains of books we are taking with – and for other stuff, too.
PS2 to Anya: I searched high and low for the label to my pale speckled yarn, without hope. Then I just happened upon it in my purse! It is Dream in Color Smooshy with Cashmere in Color 535, String & Key. It might still be available since I just bought it last week!
PS3 to Alison: Loki is lounging on Surly’s beautiful Sleeping Baby’s Castle Blanket! Her pattern is on Ravelry and is a super fun knit!
There are few things cuter in this world than a lab/golden puppy face! Loki is adorable & I can’t believe you didn’t try to stuff him in your carry-on!
I’ve got the Time Trades pattern, but haven’t cast on yet. It’s in my queue & hope to get to it someday. Your colors are gorgeous.

Twenty years is tough. A person tends to keep way more than one ought to because you can. Still go through it all really well this time because it will make it so much easier the next time. And small boxes. A book sized box can hold almost everything needing boxing. It will make it all so much easier when you have to move them around as you sort and set things out in your new home.

I just adore Golden Retriever puppies – they are so cute! So glad you got to Ft. Collins to visit my two favorite yarn shops. Loopy just has everything and My Sister Knits is such a cozy place. You should see it in the Spring or Summer – flowers everywhere!

The Loopy Ewe is my favorite shop- I’ve been shopping with them since they were in St. Louis. I order online from them all the time. Their ravelry group is the best.your time trades is gorgeous

Watch a few episodes of Marie Kondo on Netflix. It may help you to downsize some of your things.

Could you tell me the brand (you thought it was Dream in Color Smooshy) and the color name of the pale speckled yarn? That is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you!

Loki is adorable! If he only chews on patterns, then you might be okay! When my golden buddy was alive, he loved my shoes and cables, which used to scare me to death. Luckily, most pups outgrow this stage. However, he may be taking his revenge on the pattern because it takes up his momma’s attention.?. I am sending you best wishes on the move. It is stressful, but as a retired military wife, moving often gave me the opportunity to assess what was really necessary in my life. Clearly, your craft room must live on.?. Denise is also correct. Smaller boxes work best, for books and so much more. You will save your back, later with the moving and unpacking. Best wishes, enjoy your new home and thank you for the joy you two sisters give every day! ???

Poor puppy is teething! I hope he’s well provided with doggy things to chew on!!

Ah yes, memories of puppyhood. We have two chocolate labs — age 3 and 5 — and they STILL go after anything paper! Even a cardboard box isn’t safe. (The UPS man has learned to leave packages on a high workbench in the garage.) Loki is simply adorable — even while noshing on a pattern. Thanks for posting the video and photos.

So glad you enjoyed your visit! When I was a young, newly-minted career woman and wanting to be oh so stylish, I bought an expensive (at the time – $60!) pair of boots. I loved them. Got a cute puppy and came home from work one day to find she had chewed the heck out of one of the boots. Please tell Surly to hide her shoes!
Time Trades is such a lovely shawl and yours will be beautiful. Best of luck with the move! Looking forward to seeing peeks at the new house.

Oh, sweet adorable Loki. What a darling, that ultra soft downy fur, (or is it hair, I can never remember). Divided cardboard boxes are also helpful for a move, no need for extra protective wrapping for drinking glasses, mugs, etc if you place each one in one section. Most liquor stores give them away, including Trader Joe’s near the Yarnery.
