From Both of Us — It’s Knit O’Clock!!

Filed under: Updates — Both Sisters @ 2:47 pm

Or is that knit a clock?  You decide.

Over the years, we’ve both been intrigued by knitted clock patterns.  This time, we actually did it!  The pattern is by Stephanie Earp.  Although she offers several variations on the pattern, we both chose the same design.

Sally’s Clock

I dug through my stash for my clock.  The background was knit using  Sunday Knit’s Angelic 3-ply in Smoke.  The “numbers” are out of Spincycle Dyed in the Wool in the Devilish Grin colorway.  I am very excited that the clock actually works.  Or, as my daughter said:  “It lives!”

Susan’s Clock

I, too, was intrigued by this design and also rummaged through stash yarn to knit my clock.  I stumbled onto Grinning Gargoyle Shiny Penny and dark brown Malabrigo Sock.

It was a fun knit and also fun to put together.  My clock seems to have a mind of its own: it’s on time, then stops, then starts, runs slow, then runs fine!!  In other words, don’t rely on it if you have to get somewhere!!

  1. I thought I’d seen everything…well, most things…anyway, many, many things. This was a new idea to me, very cute!

  2. I love them both (and the way you’ve posed each in a still life!)

  3. How cool is that? I wouldn’t have thought a pattern like that existed, but now I’m intrigued. I’m going to have to add this to my queue. In all fairness, the queue is far longer than my knitting lifespan, so we’ll see if I ever get to it!

  4. Very nice, both of you. And now I know what to do with the clockworks I’ve had in my craft drawer for about 25 years!

  5. You guys! Just when I think you have knit the coolest thing, you go and do this. If you want to knit another, I’ll take a turquoise one. Wink Wink! Amazing as always!!!

  6. Well if you are going to knit a clock you might as well do a stunning, complicated Fair Isle pattern. No simple little stockinette business for you guys. Susan if you were the one using Devilish Grin I would say that might have something to do with your wayward clockworks. Although Grinning Gargoyle sounds like it might be a distant cousin so-o…be careful what you knit with?? (Sorry, my post-Halloween imagination sometimes gets away from me.) P.S. I like turquoise, too (fuschia numbers)?

  7. Apparently those extra question marks are what the iPad’s smile icons get transposed to in Comments. Very important to smile broadly when speaking devilishly.

  8. Those are terrific clocks.
I really want to knit that clock pattern too!

  9. bought the kit. Do you think I would be totally daft to adapt your Yoshino_Cherry chart for this pattern? I bought the pattern a couple years ago – I love it but look lousy in beanies. I have the yarn, the beads, and now this clock kit. The center of the clock will be one color but that may show the hands of the clock off better. I may try it even if you think I’m crazy. It won’t really look like a cherry tree this way, but I like the abstract idea of it all.

  10. well color me stupid. needs a 12 sectioned pattern, for the numbers on a clock doesn’t it. OK, it doesn’t HAVE to, but would look best. Still going to use the yarn earmarked for the Yoshina Cherry hat though.
