Hello, everyone! I know it’s been a while!
Many readers will know that I like to enter knitting into the Minnesota State Fair. It makes attending the fair much more fun! This year, someone mentioned that the Horticulture exhibits have a honey bee section where they accept entries on all things “bee” including something wearable. My brain immediately went to some bee mitts that I had seen on Ravelry called Hey Bee-Otch. Once I started looking at the pattern, I decided I didn’t want to knit mittens. Decided on my own hat design after all. I call my hat Queen Bee-nie.
The hat is a hodge podge of techniques: beads, intarsia, stranding, duplicate stitch, embroidery, twisted cord, and a pom for good measure!! I colored the wings with food coloring.
You can see the hive overflowing with honey, bees buzzing around, and the queen’s crown on the right. The other side of the hat is the same design. The whole time I was knitting, I thought whatta mistake! But the lil sucker is growing on me!
I am still working on my Pink Fizz, and might even get it done some day!
PS to Millie regarding Pink Fizz: I didn’t split the bottom ribbing because I converted it into a cardigan. The split ribbed hem works better for a pullover. That’s my logic anyway!!
That’s gorgeous! Very well done.

Oh, this is so entertaining to look at! I’m sure there will BEE a BUZZ about this one! Nothing like getting a BEE IN YOUR BONNET idea going. 🙂

Love your hat. Betche win at the fair again this year – a blue ribbon for sure!
I was looking at your Pink Fizz. While I like it and especially the center panel you substituted, I am wondering after looking at the pattern page, why you didn’t do the split ribbing like on your Waking Tide.
I’m in the process of making a sweater with split ribbing and am wondering whether I’ll like it. Do you like wearing a sweater with that type of bottom finish?

A tour de force! I’ll bet you could sell this little number for at least $100 – if you could bear to part with it. It’s the Bee’s Knees! Chloe

I have a question regarding The Holly Hostess Hat..
Fell in love with it and ooohhhh’d and ahhhhh’d over it, deciding this would be the perfect holiday gift!
Not very tech savvy, so asking for help. I have searched for the required #2 or #3 beads and either not finding them or totally not getting how to navigate the various websites. Tried Garden of Beadin, but sooo much information, too confusing. My question is can you direct me to a place where I can just order the ones I need without trying to figure out anything? I would so love to make this hat, exactly as you have listed.
Your help would be so very appreciated.
Thank you, Kathy

I love your Queen Bee-nie design. It’s gorgeous! Any chance you will sell the pattern so I can also make a lovely hat? My daughter is a beekeeper, and I would love to make one for her.
