From Susan – Luminating

I’m somehow fixated on summer tee knitting.  My latest FO struck me as so cute, I just had to make it.

The Original Luminos Prototype

I loved the original colorway in Hedgehog Fibres Squid and Graphite, purchased from Wool & Company.  It’s my favorite on-line yarn store.  Free shipping and yarn winding, plus 10% off orders of $100 or more!!

The sweater is called Luminos.

The shoulder has really cute detailing.

I changed up the front a little bit and did a centered double decrease instead of “k2tog/ssk,” which splits apart.  The designer used the split aspect to create the cute shoulder by chaining along the split with the colorful yarn.

I think it’s really cute and it fits.  The problem is that I do not show my upper arms in public.  Ever.  Not even when it’s 100 degrees.  So, the problem is that none of my tops/shirts go with this!!  That means I cannot wear it.  So, that’s a bummer.  I may wear it anyway with a weird looking layered look, and not feel great in it!!  I can’t help it that my arms are as old as I am!

I did try adding a short, cap sleeve, but it did not look any better and the knitting looked kind of bad.  So, I ripped it out and left it as it appears above.  The neckline, which I also like, is a double v-neck (front and back are identical) which makes wearing a top or shirt problematic.  I’ll live with it and admire it from afar??

ETA: I did wear it to knitting today and people liked it!  I wore it with a white, long-sleeved tee and I think it worked okay.

ETA2: How many times can you use the word ‘cute’ in one post!?!

  2. It is beautiful and sophisticated. I have the same issue and am always looking for the right shoulder shrug that goes to the elbow which would hide my upper arms while still showing off the top and providing some coolness as well. Saw some just now by Bernat, Patons and Lion brand by searching mesh shoulder shrug or mesh shrug. There are also some crazy new-style ones that I think only the young would wear. In case you run into one of them. I don’t mean Those! Chloe

  3. I want to emphasize the “right” shrug because they can could look darn awkward, since most look better with scoop necklines. Still… it’s worth a look!

  4. I agree. Wear it at home and enjoy it. There are certain colors that I love that look just awful on me that I wouldn’t wear in public, but I buy those colors in loungewear just for me at home.

  5. What a cute top! Gorgeous. I’m wondering if a sheer long sleeve top worn under it would work. Or 3/4 sleeve. They’re usually fitted and might work. I’ve seen even Helen Mirren almost always photographed in sheer sleeves these days at galas and red carpets. Go for it!

    Well done you.

  6. Not just cute, but adorable! I’m with you on the upper arms, in fact not much above bracelet length for me 🙁 I love the yarn, and your knitting is beautiful as usual.

  7. I love it! Thats the exact reason why I didn’t knit it…I feel like I’ve had my “pelicans” since high school! Or maybe, I inherited them from my Grandma!

  8. Look at halftee.com. They are sort of like a Dickey but for sleeves. The sleeves fit very close so look great under things like this. The 3/4 sleeve option is really nice to hide upper arms and still appear graceful and cool for summer.
