From Sally — Wonderfully Wearable

Filed under: Updates — surly @ 7:07 pm

Remember in Bridget Jones’s Diary when Bridget’s mother starts selling cheap costume jewelry?  And how she and her orange boyfriend tout certain pieces as being “all rounders”?  (Excuse me while I briefly fantasize about Colin Firth.  Ok.  Done.)

I recently finished an all rounder sweater that checked all the boxes. The pattern is Beyul designed by Justyna Lorkowska.  A simple knit with some nice stylish details.  Interesting top down construction.  Casual, comfortable, and wearable.  In fact, I’m wearing it right now! Let me stress the wearable part.  Sometimes I knit things that are so interesting or complicated that I never wear them.  I love the sweater but can’t find things to go with it or don’t feel comfortable in it or it’s too dressy for my so called lifestyle.

Bonus:  I used stash yarn.  I knit it out of Miss Babs Yowza in a bright (for me) purple called Tulipa.  The yarn has been languishing aging since Susan and I went to Rhinebeck years ago.  The pattern was clear and well written and the yarn was really nice to work with.

The photos are not great.  This is one of those sweaters that looks better on a human than a mannequin.  Sure, I could have asked my husband to take photos of me in it, but his poor photography skills are legendary.  If only he were home — he could model it!  Sigh.

Surprise!  I slipped in a selfie.

Susan mentioned showed off some yarn she’d bought for a Pink Fizz, a future project.  As usual, it’s monkey see monkey do.  In fact, I think I was the first monkey in this scenario!  Here’s a photo of the yarn I bought:  La Bien Aimée Cashmerino in Highland and Mohair Silk in Sansa.

  1. Sigh. Dreaming again over your knits! The purple is GORGEOUS, and the sweater yarns you two have purchased are dreamy! Can’t wait to see the finished projects.

  2. Your Beyul looks stunning, Sally. I favorited it a while back until I felt “up to it.” Thank you for reminding me. The color is Perfect. I think the pendulum is swinging back from just all black or gray. At least I hope so. Thank you for the inspiration.

  3. I think I went right by this pattern was it was first released. My mistake – your version looks fantastic & now I want to knit it!

  4. Stunning as always and a new to me designer as well! I use my apple watch as a remote and timer for my i phone. The Tall Guy seemed to always get the worst part of me in the pictures. LOL

  5. You and your dress form show the sweater off beautifully. Elegant color, too.

  7. Gorgeous sweater, fabulous little details, beautiful knitting – and I’m so glad to see you do a spot of modeling! I bought the Pink Fizz pattern right before Susan first mentioned it, I think because it was Tolt’s January KAL. What I’d really love to see is some photos of your yarn room – it looks so well organized, sigh. Mine is still a jumble of moving boxes, knitting books, work files and Navajo wedding baskets awaiting placement on the walls. And then there’s Yarnia, but I won’t go there.

  9. Great sweater – and I know what you mean about the interesting knit that never gets worn. This one looks to be one you will wear out!
